A Veterinary Criticalist is a licensed DVM / VMD who has completed advanced, AVMA-accredited residency training in emergency and critical care (ECC). They specialize in managing life-threatening conditions, complex trauma, and unstable medical cases within emergency and specialty veterinary hospitals.They perform advanced diagnostics, stabilize critical patients, manage ventilator cases, provide multi-organ support, guide emergency interventions, and oversee intensive care units. Veterinary Criticalists commonly lead clinical decision-making in high-acuity situations and develop treatment plans for critically ill animals.
