Job Description
Introduction
Our client is a specialty and emergency hospital seeking a board-certified or residency-trained Criticalist to join their team. This is a unique opportunity to take on a founding role in a brand-new, state-of-the-art 20,000+ sq ft hospital opening in Dunwoody, Georgia in 2026. The hospital is building its ICU and critical care service from the ground up, and this position offers the chance to shape protocols, design workflows, and establish a sustainable service within a collaborative, multi-specialty environment.
Working Hours / Rota
This is a full-time position with flexibility to create a schedule that supports both patient care and work-life balance. The hospital provides 24/7 emergency and specialty coverage, and the critical care team will be integrated into daytime and after-hours support with dedicated ER doctors. No overnight-only requirement is expected for this role.
Role Description and Responsibilities
The Criticalist will oversee the ICU and critical care service, managing a wide variety of emergency and referral cases. Responsibilities include developing and implementing ICU protocols, performing advanced diagnostics and procedures, collaborating with surgery, anesthesia, and internal medicine specialists, and mentoring emergency doctors and support staff. The hospital places a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary collaboration and shared rounds, ensuring seamless continuity of care. This role is open to both experienced Criticalists and early-career specialists seeking a leadership-driven opportunity.
Practice Details
The facility is fully equipped for advanced specialty care, including CT, MRI, ultrasound, digital radiology, and purpose-built ICU design. The hospital is led by veterinarians and emphasizes medical autonomy, respect, and innovation. The practice culture is designed to empower specialists to grow their services and contribute to long-term hospital development. Equity and ownership opportunities are available for those seeking to invest in the future of the hospital.
Team
The Criticalist will be supported by a multi-disciplinary team, including two surgeons, an anesthesiologist with a resident, internal medicine support on weekdays, and seven emergency doctors including a certified palliative care provider. The environment is highly collaborative, designed to encourage mentorship, professional development, and team-based medicine.
