Veterinary OphthalmologistA Veterinary Ophthalmologist is a licensed DVM / VMD who has completed advanced, AVMA-accredited residency training in veterinary ophthalmology. They specialize in diagnosing and treating diseases of the eyes and periocular structures in animals.They perform comprehensive ocular examinations, slit-lamp evaluations, tonometry, gonioscopy, ocular imaging, and advanced diagnostics such as electroretinography. Veterinary Ophthalmologists manage conditions including cataracts, glaucoma, corneal ulcers, uveitis, retinal disease, and ocular trauma. They are also trained to perform specialized surgical procedures including cataract extraction (phacoemulsification), corneal grafting, eyelid reconstruction, and other microsurgeries.
