Role Description and Responsibilities
As the Veterinary Ophthalmologist, you’ll provide advanced medical and surgical ophthalmology services, managing a varied referral caseload while working closely with specialists across multiple disciplines. You’ll perform comprehensive ophthalmic examinations, advanced diagnostics, microsurgical procedures, and long-term management of complex ocular conditions. The role also involves collaborating on multidisciplinary cases, communicating treatment recommendations with referring veterinarians and clients, and contributing to the hospital’s culture of clinical excellence and continuous learning.

Practice Details
This 27,000-square-foot specialty and emergency hospital is equipped with advanced technology to support the highest standards of referral medicine. Facilities include 20 consultation rooms, five surgical suites, CT, MRI, C-arm fluoroscopy, an on-site blood bank, mechanical ventilation, telemetry, endoscopy equipment, and comprehensive intensive care capabilities. The hospital offers specialist services in internal medicine, surgery, neurology, radiology, anaesthesia, ophthalmology, medical oncology, surgical oncology, and radiation oncology, providing extensive opportunities for multidisciplinary collaboration. As part of the VCA network, specialists also benefit from access to one of the largest veterinary specialist communities in North America, alongside extensive continuing education and research opportunities.

Candidate Requirements 

• Must hold the relevant degree(s) and additional qualifications to work as a veterinarian in the United States of America (USA)
• Must hold, be in the process of, or be able to obtain, a state license for the state they are applying to work in
• Must have the right to work in the United States of America (USA), or be able to obtain the required visa to do so
