A Veterinary Dermatologist is a licensed DVM / VMD who has completed advanced, AVMA-accredited residency training in veterinary dermatology. They specialize in diagnosing and treating skin, ear, hair, and allergy-related conditions in animals.They perform dermatologic examinations, intradermal allergy testing, dermatopathology interpretation, otoscopic procedures, skin biopsies, and long-term allergy management. Veterinary Dermatologists also treat chronic conditions such as atopic dermatitis, autoimmune skin disease, parasitic infestations, and recurrent ear infections. In the USA, they must hold state licensure and typically achieve board certification through the American College of Veterinary Dermatology (ACVD).This role is commonly searched as “Veterinary Dermatology Specialist,” “Dermatologist Veterinarian,” “ACVD Dermatologist,” and “Board-Certified Veterinary Dermatologist.” Veterinary Dermatologists work in specialty hospitals, referral centers, and teaching institutions, providing advanced diagnostic and therapeutic care for complex dermatologic conditions.
