Job Description

Introduction
This is a rare opportunity for a Board-Certified or Residency-Trained Veterinary Surgeon who is excited by autonomy, innovation, and the chance to build something meaningful. Based in Wasilla, Alaska, this role is ideal for someone who wants to shape a surgical service from the ground up in a region where advanced veterinary surgery is genuinely needed. You’ll have the freedom to influence clinical direction, choose equipment and systems, and create a surgical offering that delivers exceptional patient outcomes while making a lasting impact on the local community.

Working Hours / Rota
The hospital operates Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm and is closed at weekends, offering a predictable daytime schedule and an excellent work–life balance. The rota can be shaped around surgical demand and leadership responsibilities, with flexibility built in to support both professional focus and time to enjoy family life and the outdoors. This structure allows you to build a sustainable long-term role while fully embracing everything Alaska has to offer.

Role Description and Responsibilities
You will take a lead role in developing and delivering advanced surgical care, helping to establish services that are currently underserved across the wider Alaskan region. This includes performing a broad range of complex surgical procedures aligned with your training and interests, setting clinical standards, and influencing the selection of equipment, facilities, and protocols. You will also play a key role in mentoring and supporting colleagues, fostering a collaborative and progressive clinical environment, and building strong client relationships through clear communication and exceptional patient care.

Practice Details
The practice is a long-established, independent small animal hospital with strong roots in the Wasilla community. It provides comprehensive veterinary care for dogs and cats, alongside a smaller caseload of exotic species. Existing services include advanced diagnostics such as ultrasound and endoscopy, creating a solid foundation for the expansion of surgical capabilities. The hospital is well regarded for its personalised approach, high clinical standards, and commitment to continuous improvement in a unique and rewarding location.

Team
You will be joining a close-knit team of three experienced veterinarians, supported by skilled technicians and support staff. The team is known for its longevity, dedication, and collaborative culture, allowing clinicians to focus on patient care while feeling genuinely supported. This is an ideal environment for a surgeon who enjoys leadership, mentorship, and contributing to the long-term growth of both people and services.
