Job Description

Introduction
Our client is an equine referral hospital seeking a full-time Equine Surgeon Veterinarian to join its experienced team. The hospital delivers medical and surgical care to a diverse, high-level equine clientele including Western performance horses, Hunter/Jumpers, Dressage athletes, and horses of all breeds and sizes. This opportunity is for an experienced Board-Certified Equine Surgeon or Surgical Residency Trained Clinician who is motivated to work within a busy, collaborative hospital environment.

Role Description and Responsibilities
The Equine Surgeon Veterinarian will independently manage a broad range of elective and emergency surgical cases, including colic surgery, synovial sepsis management, arthroscopy, laparoscopy, dental extractions, reproductive procedures, upper respiratory surgery, and orthopedic procedures. The role involves collaborating closely with internal medicine, sports medicine, and anesthesia teams, consulting on intraoperative anesthetic management, delivering exceptional client communication and patient care, and mentoring interns while supporting the continued development of technical staff. The veterinarian will participate in the hospital’s on-call rotation, with approximately 25% primary on-call responsibility and 25% backup support for another non-surgical specialist, with specialist collaboration readily available. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong interest and background in sports medicine, prior International Society of Equine Locomotor Pathology training or equivalent experience, and/or certification in chiropractic care or spinal manipulation therapy.

Practice Details
The hospital provides comprehensive equine care in the field, on an outpatient basis, and for patients admitted to the hospital. Services include 24/7/365 emergency care, ambulatory services, clinic services, dental care, diagnostic imaging, farrier consultations, integrative medicine, internal medicine, individual wellness plans, lameness examinations and treatments, pre-purchase examinations, surgery, and telemedicine. The clinical team includes ACVS board-certified surgeons, an ACVIM board-certified internist, ultrasound specialists, veterinarians trained in acupuncture, and consulting board-certified ophthalmologists and dermatologists. Regular opening hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with the hospital closed on Saturday and Sunday while emergency care remains available 24/7/365.

Team
The hospital has 6 DVMs alongside a great tenured support team. The wider team includes experienced veterinarians, board-certified specialists, and highly skilled support staff who work within a collaborative, positive, and team-oriented environment. The role also provides opportunities to mentor interns and contribute to the continued development of technical staff.
