Job Description
Introduction
With an established Neurology service, advanced neuroimaging and a broad multidisciplinary team available for more complex cases, this specialty and referral hospital in Sacramento, California is looking to welcome a Veterinary Neurologist. Providing advanced referral care for dogs and cats, the hospital brings Neurology together with Emergency & Critical Care and a wide range of other specialty disciplines, creating an environment where complicated neurological cases can be approached collaboratively from diagnosis through to medical or surgical management. It’s a particularly strong opportunity for a specialist who wants access to extensive clinical resources while still working closely with an established Neurology team.
Role Description and Responsibilities
This role encompasses the full scope of Veterinary Neurology responsibilities, giving you the opportunity to manage a varied referral caseload across both medical and surgical Neurology. You’ll be able to take cases from neurological examination and localization through advanced diagnostic investigation, treatment planning and ongoing management, with capabilities extending into neurosurgery where appropriate. The service manages conditions affecting the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves and muscles, with access to advanced imaging and diagnostic capabilities supporting thorough investigation of more complicated presentations. Collaboration is a big part of the opportunity, with specialists across Diagnostic Imaging, Surgery, Internal Medicine, Oncology, Cardiology, Rehabilitation and Emergency & Critical Care available when patients would benefit from input beyond Neurology. This opportunity is suited to a board-certified or residency-trained Veterinary Neurologist.
Practice Details
The hospital provides a broad range of specialty and referral services including Neurology, Emergency & Critical Care, Cardiology, Internal Medicine, Diagnostic Imaging, Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Surgery and Rehabilitation. Equipment and clinical capabilities available include, but are not limited to, MRI, CT, Digital Radiography, Fluoroscopy, Ultrasound, Electromyography and BAER testing, alongside capabilities for CT Myelography, conventional Myelography, Cerebrospinal Fluid collection and analysis and advanced anesthetic monitoring. The Neurology service also provides an extensive range of neurosurgical procedures, including Hemilaminectomy, Ventral Slot Surgery, Dorsal Laminectomy and Craniotomy/Craniectomy, giving you the resources to manage patients across both medical and surgical Neurology within the same referral environment. The hospital is currently operating from 6:00 AM to midnight, seven days a week.
Team
You’ll be joining an established two-Neurologist service, including a Specialty Medical Director who is board-certified in Neurology, alongside dedicated Neurology technical leadership and support. Beyond the department itself, there’s a sizeable multidisciplinary team across Cardiology, Diagnostic Imaging, Internal Medicine, Medical and Radiation Oncology, Surgery, Rehabilitation and Emergency & Critical Care, giving you plenty of specialist colleagues to collaborate with when neurological patients have more complicated needs. It’s the kind of setup where there are genuinely people to bounce ideas off and different specialties readily available when another perspective could benefit a case, while still giving you the independence to manage your own referral caseload.
Candidate Requirements
- Must hold the relevant degree(s) and additional qualifications to work as a veterinarian in the United States of America (USA)
- Must hold, be in the process of, or be able to obtain, a state license for the state they are applying to work in
- Must have the right to work in the United States of America (USA), or be able to obtain the required visa to do so
