The role offers opportunities for clinical autonomy, multidisciplinary collaboration and the continued development of specialist referral medicine, supported by the resources of a wider veterinary organisation.
Role Description and Responsibilities
The Veterinary Neurologist will be responsible for the assessment, diagnosis and management of patients presenting with neurological conditions, providing specialist consultations and developing individualised diagnostic and treatment plans for referred cases. Clinical responsibilities will encompass comprehensive neurological examinations, investigation of central and peripheral nervous system disorders, interpretation of advanced diagnostic findings and the medical management of complex neurological disease. The position offers opportunities to undertake neurosurgical procedures according to the successful veterinarian’s training and clinical expertise, including the management of spinal conditions requiring surgical intervention. The successful veterinarian will collaborate with emergency clinicians, surgeons and other specialists on the assessment and treatment of patients with acute neurological presentations, traumatic injuries and concurrent medical or surgical conditions. Additional responsibilities include establishing clinical protocols, maintaining effective relationships with referring veterinarians and contributing to multidisciplinary case discussions and the continued development of the hospital’s Neurology service. The role provides the opportunity to influence the clinical direction of a developing specialty department while maintaining an active referral caseload and high standards of specialist veterinary medicine.
