Introduction
A locally managed Emergency and Specialty hospital in Portland, Oregon is looking to welcome a Veterinary Internist as its third Internal Medicine Specialist. The hospital has grown quickly since opening in 2022 and provides advanced referral and emergency care within a large, modern facility. There’s a strong focus on excellent medicine and patient care, but just as importantly, the hospital puts a lot of value on maintaining a positive and supportive culture where people genuinely enjoy working together.

Role Description and Responsibilities
This role encompasses the full scope of Veterinary Internal Medicine responsibilities, giving you the opportunity to manage a varied referral caseload with plenty of autonomy over your cases, diagnostics and treatment plans. You’ll be working alongside a genuinely multidisciplinary group of specialists, so there’s plenty of opportunity to collaborate when cases cross into other areas and to make use of the hospital’s advanced imaging, emergency and critical care capabilities. The hospital also encourages clinicians to develop their own interests and grow their individual services, while daily case rounds provide a relaxed opportunity to discuss challenging cases and share knowledge with the wider specialty team. The position is suited to a board-certified Veterinary Internist, joining two existing Internists within the hospital.

Practice Details
The hospital provides Emergency & Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Surgery, Ophthalmology, Radiology, Dialysis, Urgent Care and advanced imaging, with inpatient overnight care also available. Equipment and facilities include, but are not limited to, a Canon Aplio A450 Ultrasound, GE OEC 9800 Plus C-Arm, Siemens Avanto 1.5T MRI, Toshiba Aquilion 128-Slice CT, PrisMax and PuriFi Dialysis Systems, Ho Laser, Tudor Underwater Treadmill and three state-of-the-art Digital X-Ray rooms, alongside a fully equipped ER and ICU. The hospital operates from a 17,000 sq. ft. facility, which has recently undergone further expansion. Emergency and Specialty admitting hours are currently 7:00 AM to midnight, seven days a week, with overnight care provided for hospitalized patients.

Team
You’ll be joining a large multidisciplinary team that currently includes 3 Surgeons, 2 Internists, 3 Neurologists, 1 Radiologist, 1 Ophthalmologist, 3 Criticalists and an experienced Emergency team, alongside a wider group of interns, Urgent Care veterinarians, technicians and support professionals. There’s a real emphasis on people actually working together rather than individual specialty departments operating in isolation, with daily case rounds giving everyone the opportunity to share ideas and talk through more challenging patients. The hospital also runs a rotating internship program and provides in-house education for doctors and technicians, creating plenty of opportunity to mentor others while continuing to learn from the experience around you.

Candidate Requirements 

• Must hold the relevant degree(s) and additional qualifications to work as a veterinarian in the United States of America (USA)
• Must hold, be in the process of, or be able to obtain, a state license for the state they are applying to work in
• Must have the right to work in the United States of America (USA), or be able to obtain the required visa to do so
