Introduction
Our client is a hospital providing care for mixed animal patients and is seeking a Veterinary Internist to join their team in Wilson, North Carolina. This opportunity is available on either a full-time or part-time basis and is ideal for an experienced internist looking to play a key role in developing and leading a new Internal Medicine service within an established specialty and emergency hospital. With a strong referral base, advanced diagnostic capabilities, and a collaborative team of specialists and emergency clinicians, the hospital provides an exceptional environment for building a thriving Internal Medicine practice.

Role Description and Responsibilities
The Veterinary Internist will be responsible for diagnosing, treating, and managing complex medical conditions while collaborating closely with referring veterinarians, specialists, and emergency clinicians. Clinical exposure includes chronic gastrointestinal disease, endocrine disorders, kidney disease, liver disease, and other complex internal medicine cases requiring advanced diagnostics and long-term management. The successful candidate will play a significant role in shaping the Internal Medicine service, including involvement in equipment selection and scheduling decisions. This position is intended for experienced veterinarians with advanced training in Internal Medicine.

Practice Details
The hospital is a VECCS-certified Level III emergency and specialty facility providing 24/7 patient care and referral services throughout Eastern North Carolina. Facilities include dedicated Internal Medicine space designed to support the growth of a new specialty service within a modern hospital environment. Equipment and services include diagnostic imaging with ultrasound and CT capabilities, emergency services, boarded critical care, boarded specialty surgery, and Internal Medicine. The hospital was established as a specialty surgical service in 2015 and expanded into a full emergency and specialty hospital in 2019, becoming the first 24/7 emergency and specialty hospital in Eastern North Carolina. The practice emphasizes servant leadership, collaboration, and multidisciplinary patient care, while offering strong support from nearby sister hospitals and an established specialty and emergency team. The hospital operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Team
The hospital is staffed by 17 DVMs and a great tenured support team. The team includes two boarded surgeons, two full-time boarded criticalists, one part-time boarded criticalist, a stable group of emergency veterinarians, and diagnostic imaging support. The culture is highly collaborative and supportive, providing internists with the opportunity to work alongside experienced specialists while helping shape and grow a new Internal Medicine service.

Candidate Requirements 

• Must hold the relevant degree(s) and additional qualifications to work as a veterinarian in the United States of America (USA)
• Must hold, be in the process of, or be able to obtain, a state license for the state they are applying to work in
• Must have the right to work in the United States of America (USA), or be able to obtain the required visa to do so
