Our client is a hospital providing care for small animal patients and is seeking a full-time Veterinary Internist to join their multi-specialty team in Hickory, North Carolina. With more than 30 years of service to the community, the hospital has built a long-standing reputation for delivering advanced specialty and emergency care. This opportunity is ideal for an experienced internist looking to work alongside a collaborative team of specialists, emergency clinicians, and highly skilled support staff while managing a diverse and complex referral caseload.

Role Description and Responsibilities
The Veterinary Internist will provide advanced internal medicine services for small animal patients, managing complex referral and emergency cases across a broad range of disciplines. Clinical responsibilities include the diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management of conditions involving endocrinology, gastroenterology, hematology, immunology, infectious diseases, nephrology and urology, neurology, cardiology, and pulmonology. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with specialists in surgery, behavior, rehabilitation, and emergency and critical care to ensure comprehensive patient management. This position is intended for experienced veterinarians with advanced internal medicine expertise who thrive in a fast-paced specialty environment and are committed to delivering exceptional patient care.

Practice Details
The hospital is a multi-specialty and emergency facility housed within a newly built 12,000-square-foot hospital. Facilities include 12 exam rooms, a spacious ICU, dedicated feline wards, intermediate care wards, and an isolation ward. The hospital operates with a fully staffed ICU supported by DVMs and highly skilled support staff 24 hours a day to manage a high-volume caseload. Advanced equipment includes Snyder oxygen cages, canine and feline transfusion capabilities, Liga-Sur, PoliPhase sealant, GIA stapler systems, computed tomography, fluoroscopy, digital radiology, GE Logiq ultrasound systems, color-flow Doppler ultrasound, endoscopy, minimally invasive surgical equipment, and comprehensive surgical instrumentation. Comprehensive in-house laboratory capabilities include chemistry, CBC, EPOC, blood gas analysis, Sedivue, fecal Imagyst, telecytometry, and consultation support from boarded radiologists and clinical pathologists. Additional services include behavior, dermatology, diagnostic imaging, emergency medicine, feline hyperthyroidism treatment, internal medicine, rehabilitation, surgery, TPLO surgery, and urgent care. The hospital also provides radioactive iodine therapy for cats with hyperthyroidism and features a fully equipped rehabilitation suite with an underwater treadmill, K-laser, e-stim, exercise treadmill, and enrichment equipment. Hospital hours are Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 6:00pm, with emergency and critical care services available 24/7/365.

The hospital is staffed by 11 DVMs and a great tenured support team. The collaborative environment includes board-certified specialists in internal medicine, surgery, behavior, rehabilitation, and emergency and critical care, supported by highly skilled veterinary technicians and support staff dedicated to providing comprehensive specialty and emergency care.

Candidate Requirements 

• Must hold the relevant degree(s) and additional qualifications to work as a veterinarian in the United States of America (USA)
• Must hold, be in the process of, or be able to obtain, a state license for the state they are applying to work in
• Must have the right to work in the United States of America (USA), or be able to obtain the required visa to do so
