Our client is a hospital providing advanced specialty and emergency care for dogs and cats and is seeking a Veterinary Internist to join their team. Open to both full-time and part-time applicants, this opportunity offers an experienced veterinarian the chance to work alongside a team of boarded specialists in a collaborative referral hospital delivering exceptional patient care with access to advanced technology and a diverse caseload.

Role Description and Responsibilities
The Veterinary Internist will manage a varied referral caseload, providing advanced internal medicine care while collaborating closely with specialists across multiple disciplines. Responsibilities include diagnosing and treating complex medical conditions, developing personalised treatment plans, interpreting advanced diagnostic findings, performing interventional procedures where appropriate, and working alongside the emergency service to ensure seamless patient care. The successful candidate will contribute to a team-oriented referral environment and work closely with referring veterinarians to provide coordinated care. This position is suited to an experienced board-certified or residency-trained Veterinary Internist with excellent communication skills and a passion for delivering exceptional specialty care.

Practice Details
This multi-specialty referral and emergency hospital provides 24/7 emergency services alongside advanced specialty care for dogs and cats throughout central Virginia. The hospital is home to board-certified specialists in surgery, internal medicine, cardiology, oncology, ophthalmology, and neurology, as well as a full-service rehabilitation department. The state-of-the-art facility is equipped with advanced diagnostic technology including an in-house laboratory, digital radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, fluoroscopy, and a 64-slice CT scanner. The hospital is also equipped to perform advanced interventional procedures, including tracheal and urethral stenting, and benefits from dedicated anaesthesia, surgical, and nursing support providing around-the-clock monitored critical patient care. An 8,000-square-foot expansion is further enhancing the hospital’s facilities. Services include emergency and critical care, ICU monitoring and support, emergency surgery, on-site diagnostics, advanced specialty medicine, surgery, cardiology, oncology, rehabilitation, and coordinated referral care. Flexible scheduling is available for both full-time and part-time positions.

Team
The hospital is supported by a collaborative team of 19 DVMs and a highly experienced support staff dedicated to delivering outstanding specialty and emergency care. Board-certified specialists across multiple disciplines work closely together in a team-focused environment, fostering collaboration, knowledge sharing, and exceptional patient outcomes.

Candidate Requirements 

• Must hold the relevant degree(s) and additional qualifications to work as a veterinarian in the United States of America (USA)
• Must hold, be in the process of, or be able to obtain, a state license for the state they are applying to work in
• Must have the right to work in the United States of America (USA), or be able to obtain the required visa to do so
