Introduction
An established AAHA-accredited companion animal veterinary hospital in Arlington, Virginia is seeking a Board-Certified or Board-Eligible Veterinary Internist to join its dedicated Internal Medicine team. Located in the Clarendon neighbourhood of Northern Virginia, the hospital provides comprehensive veterinary services for dogs and cats, combining General Practice with specialist outpatient Internal Medicine, Surgery, Dentistry, Diagnostic Imaging and Urgent Care. The practice offers an integrated clinical environment in which Internal Medicine specialists work directly alongside General Practice veterinarians, supporting the investigation and management of complex medical conditions while maintaining continuity of care. The position offers the opportunity to manage a varied specialist referral caseload, contribute to the development of advanced medical services and provide clinical guidance to veterinary colleagues. The hospital forms part of an established regional veterinary network, creating opportunities for collaboration across multiple practices and access to a substantial referral population. The role offers predictable scheduling without on-call, overnight or emergency responsibilities, alongside continuing education resources and opportunities for professional development.

Role Description and Responsibilities
The Veterinary Internist will provide specialist outpatient Internal Medicine services, accepting directed referrals from General Practice veterinarians across the wider hospital network for the investigation and management of complex medical conditions. Clinical responsibilities will encompass advanced medical consultations, diagnostic investigation, abdominal and thoracic ultrasonography, ultrasound-guided sampling, gastrointestinal and respiratory endoscopy, and the management of patients with chronic or complex systemic disease. The position will involve interpreting diagnostic findings, developing individualised treatment plans and providing specialist recommendations for patients requiring further investigation beyond routine General Practice capabilities. The successful veterinarian will collaborate closely with primary care clinicians, supporting clinical decision-making, facilitating coordinated case management and maintaining effective communication with referring veterinarians. Additional responsibilities include contributing to clinical mentorship, participating in shared case discussions and supporting the continued development of the hospital’s Internal Medicine service. The role requires ACVIM Board Certification or eligibility in Small Animal Internal Medicine and provides substantial clinical autonomy within a collaborative, outpatient-focused specialist environment.

Practice Details
The hospital operates as an AAHA-accredited companion animal veterinary facility, providing comprehensive General Practice services alongside a dedicated referral-based Internal Medicine department. Clinical services include Preventive Medicine, Internal Medicine, Dentistry, Soft Tissue Surgery, Diagnostic Imaging, Senior Pet Care, Intensive Care, Therapeutic Laser Treatment and Urgent Care during normal operating hours. The specialist Internal Medicine service provides abdominal, non-cardiac thoracic and cervical Ultrasonography, Ultrasound-Guided Fine Needle Aspiration and Core Biopsy, Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, Respiratory Endoscopy, Urinary Tract Endoscopy, Arthrocentesis, Diabetic Consultations, Glycaemic Management and Feeding Tube Placement. Specialist diagnostic equipment includes an Esaote Ultrasound System and a comprehensive range of Karl Storz Endoscopy Equipment, supporting advanced outpatient investigation and specialist procedures. Additional diagnostic facilities include Digital Radiography and laboratory testing, while the hospital maintains dedicated surgical facilities with comprehensive anaesthetic monitoring capabilities. The hospital is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 8:00 PM, Saturday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and is closed on Sundays. The Internal Medicine department operates Tuesday through Thursday from 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM for specialist appointments, with administrative and clinical support hours on Mondays and Fridays from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

Team
The hospital operates with an established multidisciplinary veterinary team comprising General Practice veterinarians, a Board-Certified Small Animal Internal Medicine Specialist, Licensed Veterinary Technicians, veterinary assistants and administrative personnel. The veterinary team brings experience across Internal Medicine, Surgery, Dentistry, Emergency Medicine, Neurology, Oncology and Preventive Medicine, supporting collaborative clinical decision-making across a broad range of companion animal conditions. The existing Internal Medicine department is integrated directly into the General Practice environment, providing specialist consultation and referral support to veterinarians across the wider regional network. The incoming Veterinary Internist will work alongside experienced clinical colleagues, contributing to specialist case management, veterinary mentorship and the continued development of advanced outpatient Internal Medicine services within a collaborative and professionally supportive environment.

Candidate Requirements 

• Must hold the relevant degree(s) and additional qualifications to work as a veterinarian in the United States of America (USA)
• Must hold, be in the process of, or be able to obtain, a state license for the state they are applying to work in
• Must have the right to work in the United States of America (USA), or be able to obtain the required visa to do so
