Introduction
Our client is a hospital providing care for small animal patients and is seeking a Veterinary Hospitalist to join their team in Matthews, North Carolina. This opportunity is available on either a full-time or part-time basis and is ideal for an experienced veterinarian who thrives in a fast-paced referral environment and is passionate about delivering continuous, high-quality care to hospitalized patients. As part of a multi-specialty and emergency hospital network, the successful candidate will collaborate closely with specialists, emergency clinicians, technicians, and support staff to ensure exceptional patient outcomes.

Role Description and Responsibilities
The Veterinary Hospitalist will serve as the central point of care for hospitalized patients, bridging the gap between emergency and specialty services while managing cases from admission through discharge. Responsibilities include conducting comprehensive patient examinations and medical workups, maintaining accurate medical records, prescribing medications while following controlled substance protocols, educating clients, and ensuring clear communication regarding patient care and treatment plans. Additional duties include attending daily rounds, monitoring hospitalized cases, supporting hospital protocols, promoting teamwork and staff efficiency, participating in management updates and training initiatives, and working closely with hospital leadership to maintain the highest standards of patient care. This position is intended for experienced veterinarians.

Practice Details
The hospital is a full-service emergency and specialty referral facility operating within a network of specialty hospitals throughout the Carolinas. The facility provides 24-hour emergency and critical care alongside multiple specialty services including neurology, ophthalmology, oncology, cardiology, surgery, internal medicine, radiology, behavior, and avian and exotics medicine. Equipment includes a CT scanner, digital radiography supported by PetRays radiology review, and comprehensive in-house laboratory capabilities. The hospital is designed to support collaborative case management across emergency and specialty departments, allowing veterinarians to work alongside specialists while delivering advanced inpatient care. Specialty services are available Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, while emergency and critical care services operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Candidate Requirements 

• Must hold the relevant degree(s) and additional qualifications to work as a veterinarian in the United States of America (USA)
• Must hold, be in the process of, or be able to obtain, a state license for the state they are applying to work in
• Must have the right to work in the United States of America (USA), or be able to obtain the required visa to do so
