Job Description

Introduction
Sitting at the center of a busy 24/7 Emergency and Specialty environment, this hospital in Chico, California is looking to welcome a Veterinary Hospitalist to help provide continuity of care for hospitalized dogs and cats. With Emergency & Critical Care working alongside Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Surgery and advanced Diagnostic Imaging, the hospital provides the clinical resources and multidisciplinary support needed to manage more involved patients throughout their stay. It’s a particularly interesting opportunity for a veterinarian who enjoys complex medicine, following the progression of hospitalized cases and working closely with several different areas of the hospital rather than being focused solely on incoming Emergency cases.

Role Description and Responsibilities
This role centers around the ongoing management of hospitalized patients, helping provide continuity between the Emergency, Critical Care and Specialty teams throughout each patient’s time in the hospital. You’ll be involved in reassessment, diagnostic investigation, treatment planning, monitoring and adjustment of treatment as cases progress, while communicating closely with the clinicians responsible for each patient. With specialists and experienced Emergency veterinarians around you, there’s plenty of opportunity to discuss more complicated cases and coordinate care when patients require input from multiple disciplines. The role is particularly well suited to someone who enjoys managing medically involved patients, noticing changes in their condition and helping ensure treatment plans continue smoothly between different clinicians, departments and shifts.

Practice Details
The hospital operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week and provides Emergency & Critical Care alongside Cardiology, Internal Medicine, Diagnostic Imaging and Surgery. Equipment and clinical capabilities available include, but are not limited to, CT, Digital Radiography, Ultrasound, Echocardiography, Electrocardiography and Holter Monitoring, alongside Continuous ECG Monitoring and Telemetry, Direct Blood Pressure Monitoring and oxygen therapy capabilities for more critically unwell patients. The hospital also supports Transfusion Therapy, advanced endoscopic procedures and minimally invasive and Emergency Surgery, giving the Hospitalist access to a particularly broad range of resources when managing patients with more complicated medical needs. The hospital is also AAHA accredited.

Team
You’ll be working within a sizeable multidisciplinary veterinary team that includes board-certified specialists alongside experienced Emergency and General Practice veterinarians, giving you plenty of clinical experience to draw on throughout a shift. The current specialty offering includes Cardiology, Internal Medicine, Diagnostic Imaging, Surgery and Emergency & Critical Care, while the wider veterinary roster includes clinicians with additional board certification and extensive Emergency experience. For a Hospitalist, that creates a genuinely collaborative setup where you can bounce ideas off different clinicians, coordinate care across departments and have specialist input readily available when a hospitalized patient’s needs extend beyond one area of medicine.

Candidate Requirements 

• Must hold the relevant degree(s) and additional qualifications to work as a veterinarian in the United States of America (USA)
• Must hold, be in the process of, or be able to obtain, a state license for the state they are applying to work in
• Must have the right to work in the United States of America (USA), or be able to obtain the required visa to do so
