Job Description
Introduction
Our client is a rapidly growing 24/7 emergency and specialty hospital that is hiring for a Board Certified or Residency Trained Medical Veterinary Criticalist on either a full-time or part-time basis. Founded in August 2018 by five board-certified veterinarians, the hospital has quickly grown into a modern referral center focused on delivering advanced emergency and specialty care for cats and dogs. The practice offers a collaborative clinical environment where specialists and emergency clinicians work closely together to provide high-quality patient care while continuing to expand and develop specialty services.
Role Description and Responsibilities
As a Criticalist, the successful candidate will play a key role in managing critically ill and hospitalized patients within a busy emergency and specialty setting. Responsibilities include overseeing ICU-level care, supporting the ER team with complex and life-threatening cases, and collaborating closely with specialists, including internal medicine, to ensure comprehensive and high-quality patient care across the hospital. The role also includes helping guide protocols, mentoring team members, and contributing to the continued advancement of medicine within the practice. Collaboration across specialties is a central part of the hospital’s approach and supports the best possible outcomes for critically ill patients. Specific doctor hours will be discussed. This opportunity is suited to an experienced veterinarian who thrives in a high-acuity environment and is excited by the opportunity to help shape and grow a developing critical care service within a progressive specialty hospital.
Practice Details
The hospital operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, providing continuous emergency and specialty care within a clean, state-of-the-art facility. Equipment available includes, but is not limited to, ultrasound, digital X-ray, CT scanning, endoscope, and a fully equipped in-house laboratory, supporting advanced diagnostics and treatment capabilities across a broad range of emergency and specialty cases. The hospital also features a fully staffed ICU designed to support intensive patient monitoring and critical care management. Services offered include a full scope of emergency services, additionally, the practice also offers oxygen therapy. The practice is actively expanding its specialty services to build and shape the critical care department. This presents a unique opportunity to develop a critical care service within a busy, high-volume 24/7 ER environment while maintaining autonomy and receiving strong support from leadership and the wider clinical team.
Team
The hospital is home to a team of 10 veterinarians supported by a skilled and compassionate team of technicians, assistants, and client service professionals. The practice maintains a minimum 2:1 technician-to-doctor ratio, ensuring veterinarians are well supported in delivering high-quality patient care. The collaborative culture across the hospital encourages teamwork, communication, and shared clinical excellence, creating an environment focused on providing seamless and compassionate care to both patients and clients.
