Job Description

Introduction
Our client is a hospital providing 24-hour emergency and specialty veterinary care for dogs and cats in Swansea, Massachusetts. They are seeking an experienced Veterinary Criticalist to join their growing specialty practice. The practice is open to both full-time and part-time applicants and provides a high-acuity environment with expanding emergency and specialty caseloads.

Role Description and Responsibilities
The Veterinary Criticalist will manage critical and intensive care cases, working alongside emergency clinicians and specialists across the hospital. Clinical capabilities include continuous EKG monitoring using remote telemetry, oxygen therapy through oxygen cages and nasal oxygen lines, blood pressure monitoring, pulse oximetry, rapid diagnostic testing including blood gas and electrolytes, and access to an extensive in-house blood bank. The position is specifically for an experienced, board-certified or residency-trained Criticalist who is eligible to obtain a veterinary license to practice in Massachusetts.

Practice Details
The hospital operates from a 36,000-square-foot facility featuring a large 24/7 intensive care unit, an expanded emergency and ICU footprint, three operating rooms, dedicated respiratory and gastrointestinal isolation suites, an expanded in-house laboratory, dedicated oxygen cages, high-flow oxygen support, and separate entrances for emergency and specialty services. Equipment includes digital radiography, multiple diagnostic-quality ultrasound units, CT, endoscopy, a linear accelerator, and 24-hour access to laboratory equipment and diagnostic imaging. The hospital provides emergency and critical care alongside internal medicine, surgery, Radiation Oncology, and Medical Oncology, with services expanding to include ophthalmology, cardiology, and dermatology. The hospital is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The hospital has 12 DVMs and a great tenured support team, including highly trained technicians, criticalists, experienced emergency clinicians, and specialists. The environment is collegial and collaborative, with an emphasis on clinical excellence, mutual respect, cooperation, continuing education, and multidisciplinary case collaboration.

Candidate Requirements 

• Must hold the relevant degree(s) and additional qualifications to work as a veterinarian in the United States of America (USA)
• Must hold, be in the process of, or be able to obtain, a state license for the state they are applying to work in
• Must have the right to work in the United States of America (USA), or be able to obtain the required visa to do so
