Introduction
Our client is a 24/7 emergency and multidisciplinary specialty referral hospital seeking a Full-Time Veterinary Criticalist to join its team. Caring for cats and dogs, the hospital combines around-the-clock emergency medicine with specialist care and advanced diagnostic and surgical capabilities. This position is suited to an experienced veterinarian looking to work within a referral-level specialty environment.

Role Description and Responsibilities
The Veterinary Criticalist will be responsible for providing advanced care to critically ill and injured patients requiring intensive monitoring and complex medical management. Clinical responsibilities include evaluating and stabilizing patients with life-threatening conditions, developing comprehensive diagnostic and treatment plans, interpreting advanced diagnostics, and managing mechanical ventilation, fluid therapy, transfusion medicine, nutritional support, pain management, and other critical care therapies.
The Criticalist will manage patients within the ICU, oversee ongoing treatment and monitoring, and perform emergency and critical care procedures. Working closely with emergency veterinarians, specialists, technicians, and referring veterinarians, they will help ensure continuity of care throughout each patient’s treatment. The role also involves providing clear and compassionate communication to pet owners regarding diagnoses, treatment options, prognosis, and ongoing care while contributing to high standards of clinical excellence across the emergency and specialty team.

Practice Details
The hospital operates as a dedicated 24/7 emergency and multidisciplinary specialty referral facility, equipped to manage emergency presentations, critically ill hospitalized patients, advanced diagnostic investigations, and specialist surgical cases. Specialist infrastructure supports Diagnostic Imaging and Radiology, Emergency and Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Neurology, and Surgery, alongside physical rehabilitation.
Advanced diagnostic capabilities include MRI, CT, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, and dedicated diagnostic imaging and radiology services. The hospital also has equipment and capabilities supporting specialist internal medicine, neurological, and surgical cases, including urethral and tracheal stenting, gastrointestinal and other advanced procedures, brain surgery, orthopedic surgery, soft tissue surgery, and minimally invasive procedures.
The five currently listed specialty departments are Diagnostic Imaging and Radiology, Emergency and Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Neurology, and Surgery. Advanced treatments include orthopedic surgery, soft tissue surgery, physical rehabilitation, urethral stenting, tracheal stenting, collagen injections, cataract surgery, brain surgery, advanced oncology, and stem cell treatment.
Surgical services encompass advanced orthopedic, soft tissue, oncologic, and minimally invasive procedures. Particular surgical interests include intrathoracic surgery, wound management, soft tissue reconstruction, fracture repair, CCL stabilization, MPL stabilization, and urogenital surgery including subcutaneous ureteral bypass. Neurology encompasses complex neurological disease and neurosurgical cases, with particular interests including intervertebral disc herniation, epilepsy, and movement disorders.
This is a referral-level specialty hospital rather than a general practice, combining 24/7 Emergency and Critical Care with board-certified specialty medicine and a particularly broad range of advanced diagnostic, interventional, and surgical capabilities.

Team
The hospital has a 16-veterinarian clinical team spanning Emergency and Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Diagnostic Imaging and Radiology, Surgery, and Neurology. This includes a large emergency team alongside specialists in Internal Medicine, Diagnostic Imaging and Radiology, Surgery, and Neurology.
The multidisciplinary environment brings together board-certified specialists and emergency veterinarians, with residency-trained Emergency and Critical Care expertise also represented within the team. This creates a clinical setting centered around specialty and emergency medicine, with different disciplines working across complex and critically ill patients.

Candidate Requirements 

• Must hold the relevant degree(s) and additional qualifications to work as a veterinarian in the United States of America (USA)
• Must hold, be in the process of, or be able to obtain, a state license for the state they are applying to work in
• Must have the right to work in the United States of America (USA), or be able to obtain the required visa to do so
