Job Description

Introduction
Our client is a privately owned, veterinarian-owned emergency and multi-specialty veterinary hospital seeking a board-certified or board-eligible Veterinary Criticalist to join its Emergency and Critical Care department. Caring for dogs and cats, the hospital provides 24/7/365 emergency and critical care within a multidisciplinary specialty environment, managing complex, unstable, and life-threatening cases. The Critical Care service works closely with Emergency and the hospital’s other specialist departments, with critically ill and injured patients receiving continuous treatment and monitoring.

Role Description and Responsibilities
The Veterinary Criticalist will diagnose, stabilise, and manage critically ill and injured patients requiring advanced and intensive care. The caseload includes complex and life-threatening medical and surgical emergencies such as trauma, organ failure, respiratory distress, sepsis, and toxicities.
Clinical responsibilities include performing emergency procedures such as CPR, thoracocentesis, and blood transfusions, alongside the use of advanced imaging, laboratory diagnostics, complex medication protocols, and intensive monitoring. Advanced therapies can include mechanical ventilation, haemodialysis, and continuous infusions when required. The Criticalist will work collaboratively with Emergency Veterinarians, other specialists, primary care veterinarians, and support staff to develop comprehensive treatment plans and coordinate patient care. Candidates must be board-certified or board-eligible in Critical Care.

Practice Details
Emergency and Critical Care services operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, providing round-the-clock care for critically ill and injured patients.
The Critical Care service has access to advanced imaging capabilities, including ultrasound and CT, alongside specialised laboratory testing and advanced monitoring and therapeutic modalities. The facility is designed to support intensive management and continuous care for patients requiring a high level of clinical intervention.
Services available across the multi-specialty hospital include Emergency Medicine, Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Neurology and Neurosurgery, Cardiology, and Rehabilitation and Integrative Medicine. The Critical Care department works collaboratively across these specialty services to support the management of complex cases.
The hospital states that its Critical Care service is committed to aligning with the standards of the American College of Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care, with the aim of providing standards of care comparable with human critical care.

Team
The Criticalist will join a multidisciplinary team of Emergency Veterinarians, specialists, and support staff. Critical Care clinicians work closely with primary care veterinarians and specialists across the hospital to coordinate complex cases, develop comprehensive treatment plans, and maintain continuity of care for critically ill patients.
