Job Description
Introduction
Oregon’s largest 24-hour Emergency and Specialty hospital in Clackamas is looking to welcome a part-time Veterinary Anesthesiologist to its multidisciplinary team. The hospital has been part of the Portland veterinary community for more than 18 years and has built a strong reputation around advanced patient care and a genuinely collaborative approach to specialty medicine. With a large team covering everything from Emergency & Critical Care through to Surgery, Neurology, Oncology and Diagnostic Imaging, there’s plenty of clinical variety and a really strong level of support around you.
Role Description and Responsibilities
This role encompasses the full scope of Veterinary Anesthesiology, working closely with specialists across the hospital to provide individualized anesthetic and pain-management support for a varied and often complex referral caseload. You’ll be involved across the peri-operative journey, from assessing patients and developing appropriate anesthetic protocols through to advanced monitoring, multimodal analgesia and recovery, with plenty of opportunity to collaborate on higher-risk or particularly involved cases. The hospital’s combination of advanced surgery, diagnostic imaging, emergency medicine and critical care should make for a genuinely interesting caseload, while still giving you the freedom to bring your own experience and approach to the service. This opportunity is suited to a board-certified Veterinary Anesthesiologist.
Practice Details
The hospital is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and provides a particularly broad range of specialty services, including Emergency & Critical Care, Surgery, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Oncology, Ophthalmology, Radiation Oncology, Diagnostic Imaging, Rehabilitation and Integrative Medicine. Equipment and clinical capabilities available include, but are not limited to, Digital Radiography, Ultrasound, Fluoroscopy, CT, a High-Field 1.5 Tesla MRI, Advanced Anesthetic Monitoring, Comprehensive Peri-Operative Monitoring, Continuous ECG Monitoring and Telemetry, Direct Blood Pressure Monitoring, Pulse Oximetry, End-Tidal Capnography and Mechanical Ventilation. The hospital also has an In-House STAT Laboratory and extensive surgical capabilities including minimally invasive, laser, reconstructive, orthopedic, neurological and total hip replacement procedures, giving the Anesthesia service exposure to a wide variety of cases.
Team
You’ll be joining a large multidisciplinary team of Emergency Veterinarians and board-certified or residency-trained specialists working across Surgery, Neurology, Oncology, Diagnostic Imaging, Ophthalmology, Emergency & Critical Care and other areas of advanced medicine. The current team includes multiple specialists within several departments, alongside experienced Certified Veterinary Technicians and dedicated technician management. There’s a real emphasis on collaboration across services, which is particularly valuable in Anesthesia where you’ll naturally be working alongside different specialties throughout the day. With so much experience under one roof, there should be plenty of opportunity to discuss complex cases, share knowledge and work closely with colleagues while still having the independence that comes with your own specialty.
