Job Description
Introduction
Our client is a hospital providing 24/7 emergency and specialty veterinary care for dogs and cats in Frederick and is seeking an experienced Lead Emergency Veterinarian to join the team on a full-time basis. The hospital serves the DC metropolitan area and the Maryland, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia tri-state region, providing emergency care alongside a broad range of advanced specialty services.
Role Description and Responsibilities
The Lead Emergency Veterinarian will combine emergency clinical responsibilities with leadership of the Emergency & Critical Care Department, helping ensure efficient department operations, high standards of patient care, and a positive client experience. Responsibilities include managing emergency clinician schedules, supporting recruitment and onboarding, contributing to training programs for technicians, interns, externs, and ER veterinarians, assisting with medical standards and protocols, maintaining medical record standards, and helping develop tools and processes to improve operational efficiency. The role will collaborate with hospital leadership, critical care specialists, clinicians, technicians, other department leads, and referring veterinarians while supporting interdepartmental collaboration, resolving client service issues, and helping manage departmental logistics including equipment, inventory, and staffing. This position is specifically for an experienced veterinarian.
Practice Details
The hospital provides 24/7 emergency care alongside weekday specialty services, with specialists available on-call for emergency cases. Specialty and advanced services include internal medicine, surgery, orthopedic surgery, rehabilitation and physical therapy, sports medicine, pain management, acupuncture, medical oncology, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, CT, radiology, and advanced imaging. The hospital also provides referral services and 24/7 language interpreter support for clients. Emergency services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Team
The hospital has eight DVMs and a great tenured support team, with specialists across areas including surgery, orthopedic surgery, internal medicine, sports medicine, rehabilitation, and pain management. The Lead Emergency Veterinarian will work closely with the Medical Director, critical care specialists, emergency clinicians, technicians, and hospital leadership within an environment focused on teamwork, collaboration, a positive work-life balance, and a supportive workplace culture.
Candidate Requirements
- Must hold the relevant degree(s) and additional qualifications to work as a veterinarian in the United States of America (USA)
- Must hold, be in the process of, or be able to obtain, a state license for the state they are applying to work in
- Must have the right to work in the United States of America (USA), or be able to obtain the required visa to do so
