Introduction
Our client is a privately and family owned small animal hospital seeking a Full-Time General Practice Lead Veterinarian to join their team. Caring for cats and dogs, the practice combines comprehensive general practice with a varied urgent care, internal medicine, and surgical caseload. This opportunity is suited to an experienced veterinarian looking to remain hands on clinically while taking a leading role in teaching, mentorship, and clinical development.

Role Description and Responsibilities
The General Practice Lead Veterinarian is responsible for delivering high-quality medical, surgical, and preventive care while serving as a clinical leader and mentor within the veterinary team. Working closely with the Medical Director, the role remains primarily hands on and clinical, with additional responsibility for supporting associate veterinarians through teaching, mentorship, case collaboration, and clinical guidance. Responsibilities include performing comprehensive examinations, diagnosing and treating medical conditions, developing treatment plans, interpreting diagnostics, prescribing medications, and performing routine surgical and dental procedures. The Lead Veterinarian will promote consistent clinical standards, support colleagues with complex cases and medical decision making, and encourage continued learning and professional development. The position does not include HR or people management responsibilities, allowing the successful veterinarian to focus on patient care, clinical excellence, teaching, and mentorship. Candidates should have at least three years of veterinary experience, although previous managerial experience is not required.

Practice Details
The hospital is open Monday to Sunday from 8:00am to 8:00pm and provides both scheduled general practice appointments and urgent care during these hours.
This state-of-the-art practice is equipped with advanced diagnostic, surgical, and dental technology to support general practice and urgent care. Clinical resources include advanced radiology, digital radiography, diagnostic ultrasound, an in-house laboratory, a fully equipped surgical suite, a comprehensive dental department, and therapeutic cold laser technology. These resources support rapid diagnostic investigations alongside medical, dental, and surgical treatment.
Designed to accommodate a substantial general practice and urgent care caseload, the facility includes a dedicated treatment area alongside its advanced diagnostic, surgical, dental, and laboratory capabilities. The practice has served its community for more than 25 years, with third-party business records indicating operations began in the early 1990s.
A broad range of services provides veterinarians with exposure to general practice alongside a varied urgent care, internal medicine, and surgical caseload. Services include puppy and kitten care, wellness and preventative medicine, vaccinations, parasite screening and prevention, spays and neuters, dentistry, dental radiography and extractions, diagnostic testing, digital radiography, ultrasound, internal medicine, general surgery, urgent care, therapeutic cold laser treatment, and the management of acute and chronic medical conditions.
The privately and family owned practice also places a strong emphasis on hands on clinical development. Its veterinary student externship Programme includes dedicated surgical experience, while the owner serves as an adjunct professor at Western University of Health Sciences.

Team
The hospital is home to 10 veterinarians supported by a sizeable clinical and operational team. This includes dedicated RVT Supervisors, Client Service Supervisors, a Practice Manager who is also an RVT, a Pharmacy Supervisor, and the wider clinical support team.
Clinical learning and mentorship are central to the team environment. The veterinary student externship Programme provides structured hands on experience, including a dedicated surgery rotation, within a busy clinical setting covering general medicine, urgent care, internal medicine, and surgery. The owner is also an adjunct professor and preceptor for fourth year veterinary students and has developed dedicated mentorship for new graduate veterinarians.

Candidate Requirements 

• Must hold the relevant degree(s) and additional qualifications to work as a veterinarian in the United States of America (USA)
• Must hold, be in the process of, or be able to obtain, a state license for the state they are applying to work in
• Must have the right to work in the United States of America (USA), or be able to obtain the required visa to do so
