Job Description
Introduction
Our client is a full-service small animal hospital seeking an experienced Medical Director to lead its established veterinary team. The hospital provides comprehensive care for cats and dogs and has served its local community for more than 50 years. This position combines hands-on clinical practice with leadership responsibilities and is suited to an experienced veterinarian who is passionate about compassionate patient care, mentorship, and maintaining high professional standards within a fast-paced hospital environment.
Role Description and Responsibilities
The Medical Director will continue to practise clinically while providing leadership and mentorship to the hospital’s associate veterinarians. Responsibilities include balancing patient care with management and operational oversight, working closely with the Practice Manager to support strong business practices, ensuring regulatory compliance and high professional standards, and collaborating with wider support teams on administrative, capital, and human resources matters. The successful candidate will be a confident leader with a passion for teaching and mentorship and requires at least five years of clinical experience.
Practice Details
The hospital is open Monday and Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with the hospital closed on Sundays. The practice is equipped with ultrasound, digital radiology, dental radiology, an in-house IDEXX laboratory, therapeutic laser, surgical monitoring equipment, and a full surgical suite supporting advanced surgical capabilities. Services include wellness and preventative care, vaccinations, puppy and kitten care, senior wellness, parasite prevention, dentistry, nutritional counselling, diagnostics, surgery, pain management, laser therapy, emergency and critical care, hospitalization, an in-house pharmacy, and euthanasia and cremation services. The hospital has been established within its community for more than 50 years and provides a broad range of medical and surgical care for cats and dogs.
Team
The hospital is an established two-DVM practice with a supportive learning environment. The Medical Director will lead and mentor associate veterinarians while working closely with the Practice Manager and wider hospital team. The practice places an emphasis on mentorship and professional development, with surgery mentorship, weekly case rounds, and continuing education supporting ongoing clinical growth.
Candidate Requirements
- Must hold the relevant degree(s) and additional qualifications to work as a veterinarian in the United States of America (USA)
- Must hold, be in the process of, or be able to obtain, a state license for the state they are applying to work in
- Must have the right to work in the United States of America (USA), or be able to obtain the required visa to do so
