Job Description
Introduction
Our client is a full-service hospital in Sonora, California seeking an experienced Medical Director to lead their established team. With over 45 years of trusted service, the hospital is known for delivering comprehensive care to a broad caseload, including small animals, exotic pets, and large animals.
Working Hours / Rota
The hospital operates Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 6:00 pm, and is closed on weekends. The Medical Director role is full-time with no weekend or after-hours requirements.
Role Description and Responsibilities
The Medical Director will provide clinical leadership, mentor associate veterinarians, ensure regulatory compliance, and work closely with the hospital team to support operations and financial health. Responsibilities include overseeing medical standards, maintaining a collaborative culture, and providing patient care with a strong ethical foundation. This is a hands-on leadership role combining administrative responsibilities with clinical practice.
Practice Details
The hospital offers a wide range of services including wellness exams, vaccinations, dental care, internal medicine, surgery, and boarding. They serve small animals, exotic mammals, and large animals. The facility is AAHA accredited and working toward Fear Free certification. Equipment includes digital radiography, ultrasound, tonopen, ECG/EKG, and a full in-house diagnostics lab.
Team
The current team includes 1 DVM and a dedicated support staff in a collaborative and community-focused environment. The team values high-quality care and compassionate service.
Candidate Requirements
- Must hold the relevant degree(s) and additional qualifications to work as a veterinarian in the United States of America (USA)
- Must hold, be in the process of, or be able to obtain, a state license for the state they are applying to work in
- Must have the right to work in the United States of America (USA), or be able to obtain the required visa to do so
