Job Description

Introduction
Our client is a full-service pet hospital hiring for a Medical Director position. They provide comprehensive medical services for cats and dogs in San Diego and the surrounding areas. The role involves working alongside experienced veterinarians, technicians, and support staff, collaborating closely with the Hospital Manager and Regional Manager. The Medical Director is responsible for providing strong leadership, mentoring associate veterinarians, ensuring regulatory compliance, and fostering an environment of teamwork where high-quality veterinary medicine is delivered. This role also carries shared responsibility for the financial health of the hospital and overall practice operations, in addition to clinical duties. The hospital offers an amazing working environment with a focus on complete, compassionate, and extraordinary veterinary services, supported by strong community relationships, including local rescue groups.

Working Hours / Rota
The hospital is open Monday through Friday from 08:00 am to 06:00 pm, Saturday from 09:00 am to 03:00 pm, and closed on Sunday.

Role Description and Responsibilities
Clinical responsibilities include preventive care, surgery, dentistry, geriatric care, emergency care, internal medicine, and supporting a diverse senior pet population. The Medical Director also serves as a staff veterinarian while overseeing leadership duties, maintaining high standards of patient care, directing staff, and helping manage the hospital’s operational and financial performance.

Practice Details
The hospital provides routine exams, vaccinations and prevention, dental care, cold laser therapy, emergency care, geriatric services, and care for puppies and kittens. Their surgical services include soft tissue surgery, orthopedic procedures, spay and neuter, dental surgery, ocular surgery, mass removals, foreign body surgery, and wound repair, though the role does not require performing orthopedic surgeries. Diagnostics are supported by a full in-house laboratory featuring digital radiography, ultrasound, bloodwork, urinalysis, fecal exams, EKG, and digital dental X-rays. The practice is described as compassionate, professional, community-focused, and committed to accommodating the needs of every patient.

Team
The hospital is staffed by 1 DVM and 7 support staff, working in a collaborative environment alongside an engaged Hospital Manager and leadership team.

Candidate Requirements 

• Must hold the relevant degree(s) and additional qualifications to work as a veterinarian in the United States of America (USA)
• Must hold, be in the process of, or be able to obtain, a state license for the state they are applying to work in
• Must have the right to work in the United States of America (USA), or be able to obtain the required visa to do so
