Our client is a hospital looking to hire a full-time Specialty Medical Director. Treating cats, dogs, and exotics, this is an outstanding opportunity to join a high-performing, multi-specialty referral and emergency hospital. The position is open to board-certified or residency-trained specialists from all specialties and offers the opportunity to combine clinical excellence with medical leadership while working alongside an experienced multidisciplinary team dedicated to advancing patient care and clinical standards.

Role Description and Responsibilities
This role encompasses the full scope of Specialty Medical Director responsibilities, combining continued specialty practice with strategic medical leadership in a collaborative referral hospital. The successful candidate will maintain an active clinical caseload within their specialty while serving as the clinical leader for the hospital, championing medical excellence and driving the highest standards of patient care. You will mentor specialists, emergency veterinarians, interns, and residents while working closely with practice managers and hospital leadership to enhance medical quality, patient outcomes, and the overall clinical experience. The role also involves supporting professional development, fostering collaboration across specialty departments, promoting evidence-based medicine, and helping shape the hospital’s long-term clinical direction. Specific scheduling will be determined during the interview process. This opportunity is suited to a board-certified or residency-trained veterinary specialist who is passionate about leadership, mentorship, and advancing specialty veterinary medicine.

Practice Details
The hospital provides comprehensive emergency and specialty veterinary services with a robust referral caseload across emergency and critical care, cardiology, diagnostic imaging, internal medicine, interventional radiology, neurology, medical oncology, radiation oncology, rehabilitation, surgery, avian and exotic medicine, and advanced orthopedic care. The practice is equipped with advanced diagnostic and surgical equipment including, but not limited to, an I-131 therapy ward, CT scanner, ultrasound, Olympus endoscopy, fluoroscopy, high-definition laparoscopy, high-definition male and female cystoscopy, interventional radiology equipment, and a diode laser. The multidisciplinary hospital allows specialists to collaborate across a broad range of complex medical and surgical cases, delivering comprehensive care supported by advanced technology and shared expertise. The hospital provides emergency care 24 hours a day, while specialty services are available Monday through Sunday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 AM.

Team
You’ll be joining a collaborative team of 30 DVMs working across multiple specialties within a highly supportive referral environment. Veterinary specialists and clinicians are backed by a strong and experienced support staff team that plays a vital role in patient care, workflow efficiency, and client communication. The hospital fosters a multidisciplinary culture where specialists work closely together, sharing knowledge and expertise to achieve the best possible outcomes for patients while maintaining a collaborative, team-oriented workplace focused on clinical excellence.

Candidate Requirements 

• Must hold the relevant degree(s) and additional qualifications to work as a veterinarian in the United States of America (USA)
• Must hold, be in the process of, or be able to obtain, a state license for the state they are applying to work in
• Must have the right to work in the United States of America (USA), or be able to obtain the required visa to do so
