Job Description

Introduction
Our client is a hospital seeking a Medical Director. They are hiring for a compassionate and skilled leader who will provide high-quality veterinary care and build strong client relationships. The Medical Director will work closely with the Hospital Manager and Regional Manager and will partner with a team of veterinarians, technicians, and support staff. The role is responsible for strong hospital leadership, mentoring associate veterinarians, ensuring regulatory compliance, maintaining teamwork, and upholding a high standard of patient care. The Medical Director shares responsibility for the financial health of the hospital, staff direction, and overall practice operations while also serving as a staff veterinarian. The hospital is preparing to re-open to better serve the Poway community by offering comprehensive veterinary and emergency services as well as rehabilitative care. Its mission is to provide cutting-edge medical care with compassion and exceptional service.

Working Hours / Rota
The hospital is open Monday through Friday from 08:00 am to 06:00 pm, on Saturday from 08:00 am to 05:00 pm, and is closed on Sunday.

Role Description and Responsibilities
The Medical Director is responsible for providing leadership, managing and mentoring associate veterinarians, ensuring regulatory compliance, and maintaining a collaborative environment focused on high-quality medicine. Responsibilities include supporting practice operations, contributing to financial performance, and performing clinical duties. Clinical responsibilities include preventive care, dental care, internal medicine, senior pet care, services for puppies and kittens, and a range of soft tissue and emergency surgeries including spaying and neutering, c-sections, ocular procedures, mass removals, foreign body surgeries, wound repair, and dental procedures. The role requires strong communication and organizational skills, with support provided by skilled technicians and support staff.

Practice Details
The hospital will offer a great work environment, new equipment, and a positive culture. It provides comprehensive medical services for cats and dogs, including wellness exams, vaccinations, dental care, internal medicine, and senior pet care. Equipment includes digital radiography, digital dental radiology, ultrasound, an advanced in-house lab, and a well-stocked pharmacy. Facilities include full-service capabilities, emergency services, rehabilitative care, and an in-house diagnostics lab. The hospital is AAHA accredited. Core care services include vaccinations and prevention, routine exams, internal medicine, dental care, senior pet care, and puppy and kitten care. Surgical services include soft tissue surgery, spaying and neutering, c-sections, ocular procedures, mass removal, foreign body surgeries, wound repair, and dental surgery. Diagnostic services include digital radiography, ultrasound, bloodwork, urinalysis, fecal exams, ECG/EKG, and digital dental X-rays.

Team
The hospital has 1 DVM. Skilled technicians and support staff are available to support patient care needs and assist in carrying out medical plans and post-operative care, contributing to a strong, collaborative culture.

Candidate Requirements 

  • Must hold the relevant degree(s) and additional qualifications to work as a veterinarian in the United States of America (USA)
  • Must hold, be in the process of, or be able to obtain, a state license for the state they are applying to work in
  • Must have the right to work in the United States of America (USA), or be able to obtain the required visa to do so
