Job Description

Introduction
An AAHA-accredited veterinary hospital in Portland, Oregon is seeking a Medical Director to join its four-doctor team. This position is ideal for a veterinarian with a strong interest in leadership and surgery who is passionate about practicing high-quality medicine in a supportive, community-focused environment.

Working Hours / Rota
The hospital is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm and Saturday from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm. It is closed on Sundays. A full-time schedule is preferred, with flexibility to create a balanced rota that includes rotating Saturdays.

Role Description and Responsibilities
The Medical Director will split time between clinical duties and leadership responsibilities. Clinical duties include providing comprehensive medical, surgical, and dental care, developing treatment plans, and building lasting client relationships. Leadership responsibilities include mentoring veterinarians, supporting the practice manager in scheduling and operations, leading monthly doctor meetings, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, and fostering a culture of teamwork and professional development.

Practice Details
The hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art technology including digital radiography, dental radiography, in-house laboratory capabilities, and advanced surgical protocols such as a CO2 laser. The practice collaborates with a mobile internal medicine specialist and cardiologist who visit monthly, expanding the range of services offered in-house. Preventive medicine, dentistry, and soft tissue surgery are a central focus, with plans to expand further.

Team
The hospital has four veterinarians supported by a skilled and dedicated team of technicians and support staff. The culture emphasizes mentorship, education, and teamwork, creating an environment where both staff and clients feel supported and valued.

Candidate Requirements 

• Must hold the relevant degree(s) and additional qualifications to work as a veterinarian in the United States of America (USA)
• Must hold, be in the process of, or be able to obtain, a state license for the state they are applying to work in
• Must have the right to work in the United States of America (USA), or be able to obtain the required visa to do so
