Job Description
Introduction
This modern small animal hospital in Phoenix, Arizona is seeking a Lead Veterinarian to combine hands-on general practice with clinical leadership and mentorship. The position offers the opportunity to lead and develop a team of veterinarians while continuing to practise medicine within a technology-forward environment designed around collaborative care, structured workflows and sustainable veterinary careers.
Working Hours / Rota
The hospital is open seven days a week from 8:00am to 6:00pm. Clinical schedules use a structured single-flow model, with veterinarians focusing on examinations, urgent cases or procedures during each shift rather than moving between multiple workflows throughout the day. This approach provides greater structure and dedicated time for each area of patient care.
Role Description and Responsibilities
As Lead Veterinarian, you’ll remain clinically active while providing leadership, mentorship and ongoing development for the hospital’s Associate Veterinarians. You’ll support doctors in areas including medical quality, client communication, teamwork, record keeping and clinical efficiency, while working closely with the Clinic Manager to strengthen overall hospital performance, client experience and employee engagement. The position also involves empowering the wider clinical team, encouraging continuous learning and helping create a supportive environment where doctors can develop their skills and practise high-quality medicine. Previous veterinary leadership experience is preferred, alongside five or more years of clinical experience.
Practice Details
The hospital combines contemporary general practice facilities with an in-house technology platform designed to streamline record keeping and reduce administrative workload. Veterinarians work alongside a dedicated in-clinic support team and have access to a 24/7 virtual care team providing an additional layer of support for patients. The clinical model incorporates general appointments, urgent care and procedures, with mentorship, continuing education and professional development forming an important part of the hospital’s approach.
