Job Description

Introduction
Built around personalized care and strong relationships with pet owners, this full-service small animal hospital in Paso Robles, California is looking to welcome a full-time Veterinary Medical Director to lead its clinical team. Providing care for dogs and cats, the hospital has served Paso Robles and the wider North County community since 1962, combining the feel of an established community practice with a broad medical, surgical and Urgent Care offering.

Role Description and Responsibilities
This role combines hands-on clinical work with responsibility for the medical direction of the hospital, allowing you to continue managing your own cases while having a genuine influence over clinical standards and the development of the wider team. You’ll provide medical leadership and guidance to the veterinarians and clinical staff around you, helping maintain a collaborative environment where people feel comfortable discussing cases, sharing ideas and continuing to develop. There’s also the opportunity to work closely with hospital management around the continued growth of the practice, while maintaining the personal approach to veterinary medicine and client relationships that has been central to the hospital for many years. This opportunity is suited to an experienced veterinarian who is comfortable stepping into a leadership position while remaining actively involved in day-to-day clinical practice.

Practice Details
The hospital provides a full scope of GP services alongside Urgent Care and Chiropractic Care, with surgery, dentistry and diagnostic medicine all managed within the practice. Equipment and clinical capabilities available include, but are not limited to, state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment, diagnostic imaging, In-House Bloodwork capabilities and modern surgical equipment, alongside an On-Site Pharmacy. The practice is affiliated with both the California Veterinary Medical Association and American Veterinary Medical Association, helping the team remain connected with developments across the profession. The hospital is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Saturday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and is closed on Sundays.

Team
You’ll be leading a close-knit veterinary team alongside an established group of clinical and client service professionals, including an RVT, Veterinary Assistants, Hospital Manager and dedicated Client Services team. There’s a nice mix of experience within the practice, with backgrounds spanning General Practice, Emergency and Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Preventive Medicine and alternative therapies. The hospital puts a lot of value on collaboration and creating genuine relationships with clients, so this isn’t simply a position where you’ll be managing the team from a distance; you’ll be working alongside them, providing clinical guidance, helping people continue developing and having a direct influence on the culture and direction of the hospital.
