Introduction
A long-established mixed-animal hospital in Pagosa Springs, Colorado is looking to hire a Medical Director Veterinarian. The hospital is one of the larger and busier practices in the area and provides care across both small and large animals, with the majority of its caseload centred around small animal medicine. It’s a well-established part of the local community and offers a nice mix for someone who enjoys the variety that comes with mixed-animal practice while also wanting the opportunity to take on a meaningful clinical leadership role.

Role Description and Responsibilities
This is a hands-on Medical Director position, so alongside leading the clinical side of the hospital, you’ll remain closely involved with your own cases and continue practicing medicine and surgery. You’ll have plenty of autonomy over your clinical decisions while helping to set the medical direction of the practice, maintain high clinical standards and support the wider team as they continue developing. There’s a genuinely varied caseload to get involved with, spanning general medicine, surgery and dentistry alongside large-animal and emergency work, including mobile and on-call support when needed. As you’d expect from a Medical Director opportunity, this role is suited to an experienced veterinarian, with previous clinic leadership and/or mentorship experience required.

Practice Details
The hospital operates from a 3,700+ sq. ft. facility with three exam rooms and sees an average of around 12 patients per day. Equipment and clinical facilities available include, but are not limited to, Digital Radiography, an In-House Laboratory, Cold Laser Therapy equipment, and a complete In-House Pharmacy, giving the team plenty of scope to investigate and manage cases within the hospital. Alongside a full scope of GP services, the practice provides Orthopedic Surgery, acupuncture, physical therapy, Chinese medicine and herbal medicine, as well as mobile and on-call assistance for large-animal and emergency cases. The hospital is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM and is closed on Saturdays and Sundays.

Team
You’ll currently be joining a 2-DVM team, working alongside veterinary assistants and client service professionals, with the hospital operating at approximately a 3:1 support-staff-to-doctor ratio. There’s a good mix of experience within the team, including mixed-animal, surgical and large-animal emergency experience, which should make it a particularly interesting environment for someone who enjoys bouncing ideas around rather than working completely independently. The hospital puts a real emphasis on teamwork, mentorship and continued development, while the Medical Director role gives you the opportunity to help guide that culture and support the people around you as the practice continues to develop.

Candidate Requirements 

• Must hold the relevant degree(s) and additional qualifications to work as a veterinarian in the United States of America (USA)
• Must hold, be in the process of, or be able to obtain, a state license for the state they are applying to work in
• Must have the right to work in the United States of America (USA), or be able to obtain the required visa to do so
