Job Description

Introduction
With a long-standing Lead Veterinarian preparing for retirement, this is an opportunity to take an established hospital and help shape what comes next. This AAHA-accredited small animal hospital in Monroeville, Pennsylvania is looking to welcome a full-time Medical Director / Lead Veterinarian to provide clinical leadership while remaining actively involved in patient care. Providing care for dogs and cats, the hospital has served its community since 2006 and has built a loyal client base around long-term relationships and high-quality General Practice medicine. For an experienced veterinarian ready to move into a position where their ideas genuinely carry weight, there’s plenty of scope to influence the clinical direction, team and future growth of the hospital.

Role Description and Responsibilities
This position combines hands-on General Practice with responsibility for the clinical leadership and continued development of the hospital. You’ll continue seeing your own patients across preventive medicine, diagnostics, treatment planning, dentistry and surgery, while partnering closely with the Practice Manager to guide the wider team and maintain high medical standards. A big part of the opportunity is helping shape the hospital’s next chapter, from developing the doctor team and mentoring colleagues to influencing clinical culture and identifying opportunities for future growth. You’ll take a leading role in creating an environment where people can develop, communicate openly and practice high-quality medicine, while preserving the trusted client relationships the hospital has built over many years. This opportunity is suited to an experienced veterinarian with 5+ years of veterinary medicine experience and previous leadership responsibilities.

Practice Details
The hospital has served its community since 2006 and is AAHA accredited, providing a full scope of GP services alongside comprehensive Dentistry, Soft Tissue Surgery and Laser Therapy. Equipment and clinical capabilities available include, but are not limited to, Digital Radiography, Digital Dental Radiography, In-House IDEXX Diagnostics and Laser Therapy, alongside a new dedicated Dental Suite and surgical facilities. The hospital also maintains strong referral relationships with local Emergency and Specialty providers when patients require care beyond the scope of General Practice. Clinical workflows are strongly technician-supported, allowing doctors to focus more of their time on examinations, diagnosis, treatment planning and medical decision-making. The position offers a weekday schedule with no weekends and no on-call responsibilities.

Team
You’ll be stepping into an established team at an important point in the hospital’s development, with the current long-standing Lead Veterinarian preparing to retire and the incoming Medical Director having the opportunity to help define the next stage of the hospital. The technical team is highly utilized, supporting doctors with histories, patient flow, bloodwork, treatments, client communication and in-room checkout, allowing the veterinary team to focus their time where their clinical expertise is most valuable. As Medical Director, you’ll have the opportunity to mentor and develop the existing team while also helping grow the doctor team and shape the culture you want to lead. You’ll work closely with the Practice Manager on that development rather than carrying the leadership responsibility alone, while still having genuine autonomy over the medical direction of the hospital.
