Job Description

Introduction
Our client is a small animal hospital located in the heart of Echo Park. They are seeking an experienced and compassionate Medical Director to lead their dedicated team of 5 DVMs in providing high-quality care for dogs and cats. The practice is focused on delivering exceptional veterinary services within a Fear Free Certified, team-oriented environment that emphasizes collaboration, mentorship, and professional growth.

Working Hours / Rota
The hospital is open seven days a week, from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, including Saturdays and Sundays. The Medical Director role is structured to align with these operating hours, with the expectation of leadership presence during the clinic’s schedule. Weekend coverage is shared among the team, ensuring balanced workloads and collaborative support.

Role Description and Responsibilities
The Medical Director will oversee medical standards and provide leadership in daily clinical operations, shaping both the quality of care and the professional development of the veterinary team. Responsibilities include performing diagnostics, surgery, and dental procedures, while ensuring a Fear Free environment for both patients and staff. The role requires an experienced veterinarian, with a strong focus on mentoring and supporting new graduates through structured mentorship programs in areas such as surgery, dentistry, radiology interpretation, and clinical consultation.

Practice Details
This small animal hospital offers a full range of general practice services for cats and dogs, including routine exams, surgery, dental care, internal medicine, acupuncture, geriatric care, and emergency services. The hospital is fully equipped with advanced diagnostic tools such as mobile ultrasound, digital radiography (including dental X-rays), IDEXX in-house diagnostic machines, and Imagyst technology. Their in-house laboratory allows for radiography, bloodwork, urinalysis, fecal exams, and more, enabling accurate and timely diagnoses. As a Fear Free Certified practice, they are committed to compassionate care that reduces stress for patients and provides a supportive experience for clients.

The hospital is home to 5 DVMs supported by a strong team of veterinary professionals, operating with a 3:1 staff-to-doctor ratio. Candidate Requirements 

  • Must hold the relevant degree(s) and additional qualifications to work as a veterinarian in the United States of America (USA)
  • Must hold, be in the process of, or be able to obtain, a state license for the state they are applying to work in
  • Must have the right to work in the United States of America (USA), or be able to obtain the required visa to do so
