Introduction
A 24/7 emergency and critical care hospital in Olympia, Washington is seeking an experienced Emergency Veterinarian to step into a Medical Director role. This position combines hands-on emergency medicine with medical leadership, offering the opportunity to guide clinical standards, mentor emergency clinicians, and support hospital-wide medical excellence in a high-acuity environment.

Working Hours / Rota
This is a full-time position working four mixed day and swing shifts per week within a 24-hour emergency setting. Scheduling is structured to provide consistent leadership coverage while supporting sustainable work patterns for the emergency team.

Role Description and Responsibilities
The Emergency Medical Director maintains an active clinical caseload while overseeing medical standards across the hospital. Responsibilities include managing emergency and critical care cases, setting and enforcing medical protocols, mentoring associate veterinarians, reviewing medical records for quality and compliance, and ensuring appropriate controlled substance management. The role partners closely with hospital leadership to support operational performance, address client and referral concerns, lead doctor meetings, participate in recruitment and interviewing, and identify opportunities for service development while maintaining a collaborative and supportive emergency culture.

Practice Details
This is a AAHA-accredited, 24-hour emergency facility currently working toward VECCS certification. The hospital is equipped to manage complex emergency and critical care cases and operates with progressive medical protocols, advanced diagnostics, and a strong focus on compassionate, high-quality emergency medicine.

Candidate Requirements 

• Must hold the relevant degree(s) and additional qualifications to work as a veterinarian in the United States of America (USA)
• Must hold, be in the process of, or be able to obtain, a state license for the state they are applying to work in
• Must have the right to work in the United States of America (USA), or be able to obtain the required visa to do so
