Introduction
Our client is a hospital providing comprehensive veterinary care for dogs and cats in Kernersville, North Carolina, and is seeking an experienced Medical Director to join the team on a full-time basis. The hospital focuses on delivering high-quality, full-service veterinary medicine, with a strong emphasis on clinical excellence, compassionate patient care, and building lasting relationships with pet owners. This leadership opportunity offers an experienced veterinarian the chance to combine hands-on clinical responsibilities with hospital management, helping shape clinical standards, support professional development, and contribute to the continued success of the hospital.
Role Description and Responsibilities
The Medical Director will be responsible for overseeing clinical standards, ensuring exceptional patient care, and supporting the overall performance and development of the hospital. Responsibilities include providing medical leadership, promoting continuous improvement in clinical skills, maintaining a positive client experience, and working alongside medical and operational leadership to review hospital financial performance, efficiency, and quality of care. The role also involves hands-on veterinary medicine, including routine examinations, preventive care, diagnostic investigations, medical treatments, dentistry, and surgical procedures such as spaying and neutering, abdominal exploratory surgery, mass removal, and dental extractions. The successful candidate will have the clinical autonomy to make appropriate medical decisions while developing strong relationships with clients and supporting colleagues through leadership and professional guidance. This position is specifically suited to an experienced veterinarian with the clinical knowledge and leadership capabilities required to manage a veterinary hospital. The position does not require on-call shifts.
Practice Details
The hospital provides comprehensive veterinary services, including routine wellness examinations, vaccinations, microchipping, illness and injury management, diagnostic imaging, dentistry, and flea and tick prevention. Clinical facilities are equipped with cloud-based practice management and medical records software, digital radiography, dental radiography, IDEXX diagnostic technology, Butterfly iQ+ handheld ultrasound, Vetology radiograph interpretation AI, VMED Vet-Dop2 Doppler blood pressure monitoring, and VETSCAN IMAGYST. These resources support routine and complex medical and surgical procedures, including ultrasound examinations, dental prophylaxis, extractions, soft tissue surgery, and abdominal exploratory procedures. The hospital also benefits from a wider veterinary healthcare network offering paid continuing education, leadership training, and operational resources. Additional benefits of the working environment include flexible scheduling, open time off, and no noncompete agreements. Opening hours are Monday and Tuesday from 8:30 AM to 6:00 PM and Wednesday through Saturday from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with the hospital closed on Sundays.
Team
The hospital operates within a collaborative environment supported by licensed and trained veterinary technicians, veterinary assistants, and local medical directors. The Medical Director will play an important role in cultivating a respectful, inclusive, and supportive workplace culture where colleagues feel valued and encouraged to develop their professional skills. Teamwork, empathy, and a shared commitment to delivering high-quality patient care are central to the hospital’s working environment.
