Introduction
A comprehensive 24/7 Emergency and Specialty hospital in the Kalamazoo, Michigan area is seeking a Specialty Medical Director on a full time basis, to join its team on a full-time basis. This opportunity is open to board-certified or residency-trained veterinary specialists and is designed for a motivated specialist looking to transition into a medical leadership position while continuing to practice within their own specialty. The hospital operates from a modern 20,000 sq. ft. purpose-built facility, providing advanced Emergency, Critical Care and Specialty medicine for dogs and cats.

Role Description and Responsibilities
The Specialty Medical Director will combine an active specialty clinical caseload with medical leadership responsibilities, establishing the clinical direction and supporting the medical quality of the hospital while continuing to practice within their own specialty. The successful specialist will help maintain high clinical standards, provide guidance and mentorship to the doctor team, encourage multidisciplinary collaboration and contribute to the continued development of the hospital’s referral services. The position is suited to a collaborative specialist who values teaching, continued learning and the development of strong professional relationships across the clinical team.

Practice Details
The hospital provides 24/7 Emergency and Critical Care, alongside established specialty services in Neurology, Radiation Oncology and Surgery. The modern 20,000 sq. ft. facility includes 12 examination rooms, two X-ray rooms, three operating rooms and two procedure rooms, providing extensive space for emergency, specialty, diagnostic and surgical care. Equipment and clinical capabilities include, but are not limited to, CT, MRI, Digital Radiography, multiple Ultrasound systems, In-House Chemistry and CBC testing, Coagulation Analysis, Blood-Gas Analysis, 12-Lead ECG and advanced patient monitoring, alongside additional diagnostic capabilities supporting neurological and critical-care cases. The Radiation Oncology service utilizes TrueBeam technology with a Varian Linear Accelerator, while the hospital’s surgical facilities support advanced Soft Tissue, Orthopedic, Reconstructive, Spinal and Emergency Surgery. The hospital operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Team
The hospital has an established multidisciplinary doctor and clinical support team comprising board-certified specialists, Emergency and Critical Care veterinarians, Licensed Veterinary Technicians and Veterinary Assistants. Current specialist expertise includes Surgery, Neurology and Radiation Oncology, with the wider referral environment supporting close collaboration across emergency and specialty cases. The hospital is continuing to develop its referral capabilities, creating opportunities for the incoming Specialty Medical Director to contribute to the growth and clinical direction of the specialist team.

Candidate Requirements 

• Must hold the relevant degree(s) and additional qualifications to work as a veterinarian in the United States of America (USA)
• Must hold, be in the process of, or be able to obtain, a state license for the state they are applying to work in
• Must have the right to work in the United States of America (USA), or be able to obtain the required visa to do so
