Introduction
Our client is a multi-specialty and 24/7 emergency hospital seeking a Specialty Medical Director to lead its specialist team in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. This large, purpose-built facility provides advanced emergency, critical care, and specialty services for dogs and cats, supporting both urgent cases and referral-based specialty medicine. The hospital operates as part of a broader connected network while maintaining a strong focus on collaborative, high-level patient care within its local community.

Working Hours / Rota
The hospital provides emergency care 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Specialty services operate Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 6:00pm. Flexible scheduling options are available, including three to five-day work weeks, designed to support balance across different stages of a veterinarian’s career and life.

Role Description and Responsibilities
The Specialty Medical Director will provide clinical leadership while practicing within their specialty, supporting a multi-disciplinary team across emergency and specialty services. The role is suited to a board-certified or residency-trained specialty veterinarian with proven leadership skills. Clinical services within the hospital include neurology, internal medicine, oncology, surgery, cardiology, and advanced imaging. The Medical Director will help guide medical excellence, collaborate with fellow specialists and emergency clinicians, and contribute to a culture centered on mentorship, professional development, and coordinated patient care. This position focuses on delivering advanced specialty and critical care while fostering collaboration across departments.

Practice Details
The hospital operates from a newly constructed, 25,000 square foot, state-of-the-art facility designed with an open-concept floor plan to encourage collaboration and efficiency. The space includes a thoughtfully planned patient care area and a spacious break area for team wellbeing. The hospital provides 24/7 emergency and critical care alongside specialty referral services in neurology, internal medicine, oncology, surgery, cardiology, and imaging. Advanced diagnostic equipment and innovative technology support complex case management and coordinated care between emergency and specialty teams. The culture emphasizes medical excellence, interconnectivity among specialists, continuing education, research involvement, and structured mentorship through specialty leadership platforms and professional development committees.

Team
The hospital is staffed by 24 DVMs across multiple specialties, forming a large, collaborative, multi-disciplinary team. The environment is designed to promote shared expertise, specialist networking, mentorship, and coordinated case management within both emergency and specialty services.

Candidate Requirements 

• Must hold the relevant degree(s) and additional qualifications to work as a veterinarian in the United States of America (USA)
• Must hold, be in the process of, or be able to obtain, a state license for the state they are applying to work in
• Must have the right to work in the United States of America (USA), or be able to obtain the required visa to do so
