Introduction
Our client is a hospital providing care for cats, dogs, exotics, pocket pets, and rabbits and is seeking a full-time Medical Director Veterinarian to join their team. The practice focuses on both small animal and exotic medicine, seeing a diverse caseload that includes reptiles, birds, pocket pets, and occasional wildlife cases alongside a strong foundation of small animal medicine. This opportunity is ideal for an experienced veterinarian looking to lead a supportive team while continuing to develop their clinical and leadership skills in a collaborative environment.

Role Description and Responsibilities
The Medical Director Veterinarian will serve as the clinical leader and medical voice of the hospital, guiding medical quality, mentorship, hospital culture, and team development while maintaining an active clinical caseload. Working closely with the Practice Manager, the successful candidate will help shape the future direction of the hospital, support operational excellence, and foster an environment where exceptional medicine and teamwork thrive. The caseload includes wellness care, surgery, dentistry, urgent care, and exotic medicine. While the hospital sees a variety of exotic species, previous exotics experience is not required for the role. This position is intended for experienced veterinarians.

Practice Details
The hospital is a GP and exotics practice serving Gardendale and North Jefferson County with compassionate, high-quality veterinary care. The practice sees a varied caseload including wellness care, surgery, dentistry, urgent care, and exotic medicine. Equipment and technology include digital X-ray, in-house laboratories, and an updated cloud-based practice management information system. Services offered include dental care, diagnostics and imaging, spay and neuter procedures, parasite prevention, deworming, allergy and dermatology treatment, microchipping, exotic pet care, advanced surgery, laser therapy, rehabilitation, reproductive services, behavioral counseling, and medical grooming. The practice maintains a collaborative, inclusive, and supportive culture with the infrastructure and experienced support staff needed to support both small animal and exotic medicine. Hospital hours are Monday through Friday from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

The hospital is staffed by 1 DVM and a great tenured support team, with a support staff ratio of 2:1. The culture is collaborative, inclusive, and supportive, with a strong emphasis on mentorship, teamwork, and delivering high-quality patient care.

Candidate Requirements 

• Must hold the relevant degree(s) and additional qualifications to work as a veterinarian in the United States of America (USA)
• Must hold, be in the process of, or be able to obtain, a state license for the state they are applying to work in
• Must have the right to work in the United States of America (USA), or be able to obtain the required visa to do so
