Job Description

Introduction
Our client is a small animal hospital seeking a full-time Medical Director to join its team. The hospital provides care for dogs and cats and is looking for a veterinarian to combine clinical practice with responsibility for overseeing medical quality, patient care, and the strategic direction of the hospital.

Role Description and Responsibilities
The Medical Director will divide their time between leadership and clinical responsibilities, with approximately 30% dedicated to leadership and 70% to working clinically as a veterinarian. Leadership responsibilities include overseeing the medical quality and patient care provided by the hospital’s doctors, contributing as part of the hospital management team, supporting financial performance, and setting and driving the hospital’s strategic direction. Clinical responsibilities include preventative and wellness care, dentistry, diagnostics, cardiology, dermatology, surgery, emergency care, hospitalization, pain management, and general medicine. The role requires a DVM degree or equivalent and appropriate state licensure.

Practice Details
The hospital is open Monday through Thursday from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Friday from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, and Saturday from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM, and is closed on Sundays. Equipment and facilities include cold laser therapy, digital dental radiography, digital radiography with hands-free technology, an in-house blood chemistry machine, Tonopen, ultrasound, an in-house pharmacy, and a surgical suite. Services include preventative and wellness care, advanced dentistry and dental radiography, cardiology, dermatology, diagnostic imaging, ultrasound, general and soft tissue surgery, diagnostics, emergency care, hospitalization, geriatric medicine, diabetes management, allergy and skin care, anesthesia, pain management, behavioral and nutritional counseling, and euthanasia services. The hospital emphasizes hands-free radiology, low-stress handling techniques, and the use of pre-visit pharmaceuticals to help reduce patient stress.

Team
The hospital has three DVMs, consisting of two full-time doctors and one part-time doctor. Each doctor is supported by veterinary assistants or veterinary technicians, with three support staff scheduled for one doctor and four to five when two doctors are seeing appointments. One of the veterinarians is Fear Free Certified, and the wider team is trained in low-stress handling techniques.

Candidate Requirements 

• Must hold the relevant degree(s) and additional qualifications to work as a veterinarian in the United States of America (USA)
• Must hold, be in the process of, or be able to obtain, a state license for the state they are applying to work in
• Must have the right to work in the United States of America (USA), or be able to obtain the required visa to do so
