Introduction
A well-established small animal hospital in Des Moines, Washington is seeking an experienced Medical Director to lead clinical standards, mentor the team, and guide the hospital’s next phase of growth. This is an ideal opportunity for a veterinarian who enjoys combining hands-on medicine with leadership, protocol development, and strong client relationships in a close-knit practice environment.

Working Hours / Rota
The hospital operates Monday to Friday, 8:00am–5:30pm, and is closed weekends, supporting a consistent and sustainable work schedule.

Role Description and Responsibilities
The Medical Director will serve as the clinical leader of the hospital, delivering high-quality general practice medicine while overseeing medical protocols, patient care standards, and daily clinical flow. Responsibilities include comprehensive examinations, diagnostics, surgery, and case management, alongside guiding staff efficiency, participating in daily rounds, and collaborating closely with the Hospital Manager on operational priorities. The role also involves mentoring team members, supporting ongoing training initiatives, and ensuring medical excellence from intake through discharge, while maintaining accurate records and controlled substance compliance.

Practice Details
This is a well-equipped general practice with digital radiography, in-house laboratory capabilities, ultrasound, and a full surgical suite. The hospital has long-standing community trust and focuses on compassionate, relationship-driven care delivered in a supportive and collaborative clinical environment.

Team
You will lead a small, dedicated veterinary team, working closely with experienced support staff. This role is well suited to a veterinarian who values autonomy, enjoys shaping hospital culture, and takes pride in building strong internal systems while remaining clinically involved.

Candidate Requirements 

• Must hold the relevant degree(s) and additional qualifications to work as a veterinarian in the United States of America (USA)
• Must hold, be in the process of, or be able to obtain, a state license for the state they are applying to work in
• Must have the right to work in the United States of America (USA), or be able to obtain the required visa to do so
