Introduction
This established small animal hospital in Denver, Colorado is seeking a Medical Director to lead its three-doctor veterinary team. Serving the local community since 2010, the practice provides comprehensive general medicine alongside same-day and emergency care, giving the Medical Director the opportunity to remain actively involved in a varied clinical caseload while taking responsibility for medical standards, doctor development and the continued growth of the hospital.

Working Hours / Rota
The position is full-time and combines hands-on clinical work with dedicated leadership responsibilities. The hospital is open Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 6:00pm and Saturday from 8:00am to 12:00pm, with Sundays closed. The Medical Director will continue managing their own patients and clinical caseload alongside protected responsibilities for supporting the veterinary team and hospital operations.

Role Description and Responsibilities
As Medical Director, you’ll lead and mentor the hospital’s associate veterinarians while continuing to practise comprehensive small animal medicine across wellness, diagnostics, surgery, same-day care and emergency cases. You’ll conduct regular development discussions, lead doctor meetings, oversee medical standards and mentorship programmes, and work closely with the Practice Manager on team engagement, recruitment, compliance and overall hospital performance. The position requires at least two years of clinical experience and is suited to a veterinarian who enjoys developing other doctors and is interested in expanding their understanding of the operational side of veterinary practice.

Practice Details
The hospital currently has three veterinarians and provides full-service small animal care, with diagnostic and testing capabilities supporting both scheduled appointments and more urgent same-day presentations. The practice places a strong emphasis on clinical autonomy, collaboration and continued professional development, with access to structured leadership training, mentorship and additional clinical education. This provides the Medical Director with the opportunity to shape medicine at a local hospital level while having additional resources available to support their own development as a clinical leader.

Candidate Requirements 

• Must hold the relevant degree(s) and additional qualifications to work as a veterinarian in the United States of America (USA)
• Must hold, be in the process of, or be able to obtain, a state license for the state they are applying to work in
• Must have the right to work in the United States of America (USA), or be able to obtain the required visa to do so
