Job Description

Introduction
Our client is a hospital in Northwest Chicagoland seeking a Specialty Medical Director to lead a dedicated team of specialists and emergency veterinarians. This 24/7 facility provides emergency, specialty, and referral care exclusively for companion animals, offering a diverse caseload and advanced medical services. The hospital is looking for an experienced veterinarian who is residency-trained or board-certified in Emergency and Critical Care, Small Animal Surgery, or Small Animal Internal Medicine.

Working Hours / Rota
The hospital operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Role Description and Responsibilities
The Specialty Medical Director will oversee and guide the hospital’s medical teams, contributing clinical leadership and promoting excellence in patient care. The role requires hands-on involvement in managing complex cases while supporting collaboration across emergency, internal medicine, surgical, and rehabilitation departments. While leadership experience is preferred, it is not required for consideration. The position is open to experienced clinicians only.

Practice Details
The facility offers advanced diagnostics and treatment capabilities including CT scans, digital radiography, ultrasound, cold lasers, endoscopy, ECG/EKG, and an in-house lab. Services include emergency and critical care, internal medicine, surgery, physical rehabilitation, and hydrotherapy. The hospital supports complex and chronic case management through a collaborative and integrative approach.

Team
The team consists of 8 DVMs, including one internal medicine specialist. The environment is expert-driven and focused on continuous, comprehensive care across specialties.

Candidate Requirements 

• Must hold the relevant degree(s) and additional qualifications to work as a veterinarian in the United States of America (USA)
• Must hold, be in the process of, or be able to obtain, a state license for the state they are applying to work in
• Must have the right to work in the United States of America (USA), or be able to obtain the required visa to do so
