Job Description

Introduction
Our client is a hospital located in northwest Chicago, Illinois, currently hiring an Associate Veterinarian to join their community-focused general practice. The hospital primarily treats cats and dogs, with openness to expanding services to include exotic pets and orthopedic surgery, depending on the experience of the candidate.

Working Hours / Rota
The hospital is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, and Saturdays from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm. It is closed on Sundays. A full-time schedule typically involves 30–35 hours per week, with coverage most needed on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. DVMs generally have one to two designated surgery days per week, and at least one Saturday off per month is included. The role is open to both full-time and part-time candidates, with scheduling flexibility offered to support work-life balance.

Role Description and Responsibilities
The Associate Veterinarian will be responsible for providing high-quality preventive, medical, surgical, and dental care to patients. The role includes soft tissue surgery, dental cleanings, radiology, lab diagnostics, and wellness or sick visits. There is also access to mobile ultrasound services and opportunities for in-house fast scans. The position is suitable for experienced veterinarians as well as new graduates, with dedicated mentorship provided.

Practice Details
The hospital offers modern amenities including hands-free digital radiology, in-house and reference laboratory diagnostics, and mobile ultrasound capabilities. With roots in the community dating back to the 1970s, the practice is known for its “hometown” atmosphere and focus on compassionate, collaborative care.

Team
The team currently consists of two full-time DVMs and 12 support staff. The practice culture is collaborative and mentoring-focused, offering support and guidance especially for recent graduates and those early in their careers.

Candidate Requirements 

• Must hold the relevant degree(s) and additional qualifications to work as a veterinarian in the United States of America (USA)
• Must hold, be in the process of, or be able to obtain, a state license for the state they are applying to work in
• Must have the right to work in the United States of America (USA), or be able to obtain the required visa to do so
