Job Description

Introduction
An established AAHA-accredited veterinary hospital in Charleston, West Virginia is seeking an experienced Medical Director to join its team on a full-time basis, with the opportunity for future equity and ownership. AAHA accredited since 1993, the practice provides comprehensive veterinary care for dogs, cats, exotics and pocket pets, combining General Practice medicine with Urgent Care, advanced diagnostics and additional medical services. The position combines an active clinical caseload with responsibility for medical leadership, providing substantial medical autonomy and the opportunity to influence the continued clinical development of an established four-veterinarian hospital.

Role Description and Responsibilities
The Medical Director will combine hands-on clinical practice with responsibility for the medical leadership and continued development of the hospital. The clinical component encompasses the full scope of General Practice responsibilities, including wellness and preventive care, diagnostic investigation, treatment planning, dentistry, surgery and ongoing medical management, alongside opportunities to manage Urgent Care presentations and exotic patients where appropriate. The successful veterinarian will provide clinical leadership to the wider veterinary and support teams, helping maintain high standards of medicine, supporting effective clinical protocols and workflows, and contributing to the continued development of the hospital. The position provides flexible scheduling, substantial medical autonomy and the opportunity to progress towards future ownership.

Practice Details
The hospital provides a full scope of GP services, alongside Urgent Care, Internal Medicine, Exotic Medicine, Laser Therapy and advanced diagnostic imaging. Equipment and clinical capabilities include, but are not limited to, a state-of-the-art IDEXX Laboratory with CBC, SediVue and Chemistry capabilities, Digital Radiography, Doppler Ultrasound, Companion Therapeutic Laser and Ellman Radiosurgical Equipment, alongside Dental Radiography. The hospital’s in-house diagnostic capabilities support blood testing, urinalysis, fecal analysis, radiography and ultrasound, allowing a broad range of medical cases to be investigated on site. Urgent Care is provided during normal hospital hours, with the practice not operating as a 24/7 Emergency facility. The hospital is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 AM to 6:30 PM, Saturday from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM and Sunday from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM, with veterinarian appointment hours operating Monday through Friday.

Team
The hospital has an established four-veterinarian team, supported by a Hospital Manager and an extensive clinical support structure that includes Registered Veterinary Technicians, Veterinary Assistants and additional patient and client service professionals. The incoming Medical Director will provide clinical leadership within this experienced multidisciplinary environment while benefiting from substantial technical support and access to a wider DVM mentor network.
