Job Description
Introduction
Our client is a veterinary group seeking a full-time Area Medical Director Veterinarian to provide strategic medical leadership across three practices. The role spans hospitals providing care for dogs and cats, with one location also managing a large animal caseload. This opportunity is suited to an experienced veterinarian who can combine clinical leadership with operational oversight, strategic planning, mentorship, and hands-on patient care.
Role Description and Responsibilities
The Area Medical Director Veterinarian will uphold and advance standards of veterinary medicine across all three hospitals, ensuring high-quality, compassionate patient care while promoting best practices in diagnostics, treatment planning, and client communication. The role includes working clinically within the hospitals, seeing patients and providing direct mentorship and clinical guidance to Associate Veterinarians, particularly in building confidence and competency in general practice and surgery. Responsibilities also include ensuring regulatory and ethical compliance, supporting hospital-specific strategic initiatives, overseeing doctor productivity and hospital performance, analyzing KPIs including revenue, efficiency, case outcomes, client satisfaction, and medical quality metrics, and developing data-driven plans to improve performance. The Medical Director will optimize scheduling, workflows, patient throughput, and consistency in medical and operational standards while creating short- and long-term strategies for hospital growth. They will identify inefficiencies, implement improvements, collaborate with cross-functional teams, support conflict resolution, and provide leadership during periods of change, growth, or operational challenges. This position is for an experienced veterinarian.
Practice Details
The position is split across three veterinary hospitals, with responsibility for maintaining consistent standards of medical care and operational performance across each location. The practices provide veterinary care for dogs and cats, while one hospital also manages a large animal caseload. Another of the hospitals offers acupuncture, Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine, and chiropractic care. The Area Medical Director will work across the locations to support clinical excellence, improve hospital efficiency and patient flow, strengthen client experiences, and identify opportunities for continued growth through strategic planning and performance data.
Team
The Area Medical Director will work closely with Associate Veterinarians, hospital administrators, hospital leadership, and cross-functional teams across all three practices. A significant part of the position involves mentoring veterinarians, providing clinical guidance, promoting continuous learning, and creating a positive, collaborative, and inclusive culture. The role will encourage psychological safety, teamwork, accountability, open communication, and high staff engagement while supporting teams through operational challenges and periods of growth or change.
