Introduction
Our client is an AAHA-accredited veterinary hospital in Boston, Massachusetts, providing comprehensive care for dogs, cats, and exotics. The hospital is also a certified Cat Friendly Practice and maintains Fear Free certification, reflecting its commitment to high medical standards and compassionate, low-stress patient care. They are seeking an experienced Medical Director Veterinarian to join the practice on a full-time basis, combining clinical medicine with responsibility for medical leadership and continued improvement in patient care and client service.

Role Description and Responsibilities
The Medical Director Veterinarian will lead and mentor the hospital’s associate veterinarians while continuing to practice clinically and setting the standard for medical quality, client service, and efficiency. Responsibilities include conducting performance discussions, coaching veterinarians on individual development goals, partnering with the Practice Manager on the annual operating plan and financial performance, and ensuring compliance with medical and DEA regulations. The Medical Director will lead monthly doctor meetings covering best practices, new services, and medical standards, supervise externship and mentorship programs, support recruitment, and represent the hospital through community engagement at schools, universities, and local events. This position is specifically for an experienced veterinarian.

Practice Details
The hospital is AAHA accredited, Cat Friendly certified, and Fear Free certified, with an approach centered on comprehensive medicine and compassionate, low-stress care. Services include wellness and preventive care, testing and diagnostics, advanced care, urgent care, and surgical procedures, including anesthesia, spays and neuters, soft tissue surgery, mass removals, laparoscopic surgery, and dental surgery. The hospital provides care ranging from routine puppy and kitten wellness examinations to complex dentistry, surgery, and sick and urgent cases. It is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM–7:00 PM, Saturday from 8:00 AM–3:00 PM, and is closed on Sunday.

The Medical Director will play a central role in developing the veterinarian team and fostering a healthy, engaged culture focused on teamwork, growth, and retention.

Candidate Requirements 

• Must hold the relevant degree(s) and additional qualifications to work as a veterinarian in the United States of America (USA)
• Must hold, be in the process of, or be able to obtain, a state license for the state they are applying to work in
• Must have the right to work in the United States of America (USA), or be able to obtain the required visa to do so
