Job Description
Introduction
Our client is a long-established small animal hospital seeking a Full-Time Medical Director to join its team. Caring for cats and dogs, the practice provides comprehensive veterinary medicine across general care, urgent care, diagnostics, dentistry, and surgery. This opportunity combines hands-on clinical practice with the leadership and development of the hospital’s veterinary team.
Role Description and Responsibilities
The Veterinary Medical Director will be responsible for providing exceptional medical, surgical, and preventative care while leading the hospital’s clinical team and maintaining high standards of veterinary medicine. Clinical responsibilities include performing comprehensive physical examinations, diagnosing and treating illnesses and injuries, developing treatment plans, interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing medications, and performing routine and advanced surgical and dental procedures based on experience.
Alongside hands-on clinical responsibilities, the Medical Director will mentor and support veterinarians, promote clinical excellence through training and case collaboration, ensure compliance with medical protocols and regulatory standards, and drive quality improvement initiatives. Working closely with hospital leadership, they will contribute to improving patient outcomes, client satisfaction, and overall hospital performance while fostering a positive and collaborative clinical culture.
Candidates with three to five years of clinical experience are preferred.
Practice Details
The hospital is open Monday to Friday from 8:00am to 6:00pm and Saturday from 8:00am to 5:00pm.
Established at its current Bonita location in 1962, the practice has more than 60 years of history within the local community. Originally a mixed animal practice caring for horses and dairy cattle alongside companion animals, it has since evolved into a dedicated small animal hospital. The facility supports general medicine, urgent care, diagnostics and imaging, dentistry, and surgery, with surgical services provided within a safe, modern environment.
State-of-the-art diagnostic equipment supports bloodwork, diagnostic imaging, and ultrasound. The hospital also provides comprehensive dentistry and surgery within its modern clinical environment.
Veterinary services include wellness examinations, preventative healthcare, vaccinations, puppy and kitten care, sick visits, same-day urgent care, diagnostic testing, bloodwork, diagnostic imaging, ultrasound, dental cleanings, surgery, spays and neuters, behavioral counselling, nutritional counselling, and end-of-life care.
The team manages a wide range of medical presentations including vomiting and diarrhea, lethargy, limping and lameness, coughing and sneezing, dermatological conditions, ear infections, excessive thirst and urination, weight changes, appetite changes, dental problems, eye conditions, seizures, abnormal masses, breathing difficulties, behavioral changes, and suspected gastrointestinal blockages. An online pharmacy is also available, allowing medications and other pet healthcare products to be delivered directly to clients.
The practice combines the traditional, personal style of veterinary care that has shaped its approach since 1962 with modern medical treatments and technology.
Team
The hospital is currently home to two veterinarians. The team focuses on providing personalized and compassionate veterinary care while maintaining the traditional approach that has defined the practice throughout its long history. At the same time, newer medical treatments and technology are incorporated into the care provided to patients.
