Introduction
Our client is a small animal veterinary hospital seeking an Emergency Veterinarian to join its team. The hospital provides general practice, urgent care, and evening emergency services for dogs and cats, allowing patients to receive care ranging from routine medicine through hospitalization and emergency treatment within the same practice. The position is available on either a full-time or part-time basis and is designed around evening emergency medicine with continuity of care provided by the hospital’s daytime teams.

Role Description and Responsibilities
The Emergency Veterinarian will provide comprehensive medical, surgical, and dental care for emergency patients, managing diagnostics, treatment planning, hospitalization, surgery, and client communication. Doctors have opportunities to develop advanced emergency surgical skills, including GDV, pyometra, C-section, splenectomy, and foreign body procedures, with experienced veterinarians available for guidance and support. The hospital stops accepting new emergency cases one hour before the end of each shift, allowing doctors to complete patient care and medical records before leaving. Hospitalized cases are then supported by the daytime emergency and general practice teams, which also handle follow-up appointments and continued client communication. The ideal candidate will have between six months and four years of post-graduation experience. Full-time doctors work from 6:00 PM to 2:00 AM on a rotating schedule of five days on, two days off, two days on, and five days off. Part-time doctors work every other Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, equating to six shifts per month.

Practice Details
The hospital has provided veterinary care to its community for more than 50 years and combines general practice, urgent care, and evening emergency medicine under one roof. The facility is equipped with an in-house IDEXX laboratory, digital radiography, ultrasound, surgical suites, advanced anesthesia monitoring, and access to 24/7 board-certified radiology interpretation. Services span routine wellness and preventative medicine, advanced diagnostics, surgery, hospitalization, urgent care, and emergency medicine. The evening emergency service is structured to provide a sustainable alternative to traditional overnight emergency practice, with shifts ending at 2:00 AM and continuity of care provided by daytime teams.

Team
The hospital has nine DVMs working alongside experienced registered veterinary technicians, veterinary assistants, and a dedicated client care team. The hospital maintains a 5:1 staff-to-doctor ratio and emphasizes collaboration, professional development, mentorship, and sustainable veterinary careers. Support staff are actively involved in patient care, enabling doctors to focus on diagnostics, treatment planning, surgery, and client communication. The environment emphasizes collaboration and case discussion, with experienced veterinarians available to provide guidance on challenging cases and advanced emergency procedures.

Candidate Requirements 

• Must hold the relevant degree(s) and additional qualifications to work as a veterinarian in the United States of America (USA)
• Must hold, be in the process of, or be able to obtain, a state license for the state they are applying to work in
• Must have the right to work in the United States of America (USA), or be able to obtain the required visa to do so
