Introduction
Our client is an emergency and critical care hospital seeking a part-time Emergency Veterinarian to join its dedicated team in Springfield, Illinois. This veterinarian-owned clinic provides emergency and critical care services for dogs and cats during hours when most general practices are closed, working in close collaboration with thirteen local veterinary hospitals to deliver high-quality, up-to-date emergency medicine.

Working Hours / Rota
The hospital operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This is a part-time position consisting of eight shifts per month. Weekday shifts are primarily overnight, while weekend shifts may include a combination of daytime and overnight coverage, with four of the eight monthly shifts occurring on weekends.

Role Description and Responsibilities
The Emergency Veterinarian will manage a varied and often high-acuity emergency and critical care caseload, providing prompt medical assessment, diagnostics, and treatment. Responsibilities include performing emergency evaluations, utilizing in-house diagnostic capabilities such as radiology and tonometry, managing hospitalized patients, delivering surgical services ranging from routine to advanced procedures, and overseeing pain management and recovery. The role requires confident clinical decision-making, the ability to work independently while collaborating closely with a skilled support team, and a strong commitment to compassionate, high-quality emergency care. Prior emergency medicine experience is strongly preferred.

This veterinarian-owned emergency clinic is supported by thirteen local veterinary hospitals, reinforcing a collaborative and community-driven model of care. The hospital offers comprehensive emergency and critical care services, including in-house diagnostics, radiology, surgical services, pharmacy access, pain management, and specialist referrals when advanced procedures require board-certified expertise. The facility is equipped to hospitalize patients and perform pre-anesthetic testing, continuous surgical monitoring, and post-operative pain control, ensuring thorough and attentive care for each case. Candidate Requirements 

• Must hold the relevant degree(s) and additional qualifications to work as a veterinarian in the United States of America (USA)
• Must hold, be in the process of, or be able to obtain, a state license for the state they are applying to work in
• Must have the right to work in the United States of America (USA), or be able to obtain the required visa to do so
